I don't think the HX cameras does have a Zeiss lens. My HX30V hasn't suffered any because of it and the G lens is quite good.

I don't think it makes any difference if a consumer Sony camera says Carl Zeiss or Sony G on it or not compared to the RX1 that looks like it was made by Carl Zeiss like their Sony Zeiss lenses. The 500mm F4 Sony G cost $12,998 at B&H.

I wonder why the RX100 doesnt come with a grip like this HX50 comes with? That was probably my biggest gripe with the camera.

Great shots John, I also like small sensor cameras with ultra long IS zooms that are not available on larger sensor models.

I actually had a chance to test out a Canon SX50 (the current king of zooms) for a couple of days this past weekend. There was a sale going on, so I took a flier on it to see if it could replace my 18-250 for my tele needs.

The zoom is LOOOOONG. Jaw-droppingly long. Being able to zoom farther than your eye can see is an incredible power.

Unfortunately, that super long zoom requires a lot of practice and technique. Also, on clear sunny days, you'd think using it would be a total slam dunk. Not the case. Atmospheric haze renders it fairly unusable at the super long end.

I returned it.

Still, if it pops up on the local craigslist in the future for a good price, I might pick it up again. It's a fun vacation toy/super creep camera.

Here are some that i took at a wedding using my HX30V. Very similar sensor as the HX50V.

The one of the flower girl was heavily cropped to remove unwanted people from the frame.
