After Nikons quality catastrophies with D600, D7100 and D800

We have seen Nikons
Leading to a stone like drop in price as market demand plummeted. No other recent models caved in like this.
Now the D7100 seems to inherit both Nikon quality issues at the same time:
Scary.

It seems as a Nikon user you have to accept a weekly roundtrip to the service department (at own cost and time).

Canon not only had
The issue some experienced years ago with the first K-5 batch seems so small and far away now that those real and larger problems with Canon and Nikon are plagueing their users so recently.

Sometimes life as a Pentaxian is good with a perfectly working K-5IIs.
No issues whatsoever.

Something to be said about slow, incremental development. It may not be whiz bang, but it has fewer problems than the cutting edge.

Much as I am frustrated by the deafening silence of new products from Pentax, the tumultuous uproar of new camera owners reporting problems would be even worse. Take your time and get it right Pentax.............

I know a few people with the D600. They love their cameras, and haven't experienced any issues. My friend's 5d3 is a beast. I really enjoy that camera. I often ponder picking up a d600 at these low prices.

I had dust on mine. Not a huge deal. I sent it in, like I did for my K-5's stain and button, which was also not a big deal.

When I start paying for it, it's a big deal.

the grass isn't always greener...everyone has issues...at least you know what pentaxes are for the moment...i'm not happy with everything pentax is doing but i'm staying for now...it makes me feel better to see these issues... a friend of mine has a d7000 that has been in the shop at least twice while he has had it...haven't had a chance to see why it is back in now...knock on wood pentax has been rock solid with a few hiccups

I'd be interested to hear if it happens again, after you sent it in, or if they fixed it permanently. I have been considering a refurb from Cameta. It comes with a 1yr Nikon warranty. I'm thinking those might have been corrected.

If I had to pick one or the other, I'd pick the K-5. Photography is supposed to be fun for me, and Nikon controls make me feel like I'm wrestling the camera.

Nevertheless the IQ advantage is substantial.

I think I might only have 20 clicks on it since I sent it in. Been in a bit of a lull - ultra busy at home + work and no time for photography trips.

I had a K10D with a failed flash: K10D broke already!!!!: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review
I had a K-5 with a button that fell off: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-k-5/147149-lens-release-button-fell-off-my-k-5-a.html
I own a 50-135 with failed SDM: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/178216-no-more...autofocus.html
My brother owned a 16-50 with failed SDM.
I owned a 17-70 with severe backfocus (before the bodies had focus adjustments). I returned this within the return window.
I owned a 17-70 that worked fine for me, then I sold it and it and the SDM broke on him some months later. The new owner was upset with me even though the defect didn't occur until much later and was never present during my use.
I had an AF-360FGZ with a broken battery door: AF360FGZ Battery door problem
I had a K-7 with a green line joining the two sensor halves: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/general-technical-troubleshooting/162519-...ine-issue.html

I also had a D600 that had a bit of dust which was easy to blow off, which has to be the easiest and least trouble failure of any that I've already listed.

D600 here, 8000k clicks, no stains, factory debris: yes, had them in the begining, first 1000k shots.
Nikon 28/50/85 1.8G lenses, bought new, no problems, 28 -7, 50 -2, 85 spot on (tested with FoCal)

K-7: Green line, twice, Pentax very good about it, got new body after warranty.
K-5: AF issue in low light/tungsten or whatever, solved it by using AF adjust when i needed but got tired of problems, sold it.
16-45: three before i got a copy without loose barrel and/or focus issues.
50-135: one with heavy back focus, next SDM fail, got new one that actually was an old with scratch marks and dust inside.... Got new one again from Pentax, this time they really gave me a new one, perfect, sold it... though it was good my soul was hurt... best damn lens i ever had...

DA15, FA31, FA43, FA77, D-FA 100 WR, 18-55 WR, DA50-300: No issues

I went Nikon before they solved K-5 issue...

I had a D600 in December and sold it in January. I had about 3000 clicks and must have cleaned the sensor myself a dozen times. I was tired of removing spots in PP that I sold it and all my lenses and moved to Pentax. The body just wasn't comfortable for me like the K-5II is. I just can't believe Nikon is having these kinds of QC problems. Why does it take them soooo long to admit to having a problem with the D600? Another thing that drove me crazy was the clustered focus points. I'm not one to usually recompose my shots.

i bought and returned 3 different D600 bodies, all of them afflicted with the excessive dust issue. Wound up buying a used D800 locally, which I was able to check out for the focus issue before buying. Great camera, but I found myself leaving it home because it was so heavy. Like you, I sold my Nikon gear and returned to Pentax. I love the K-5IIS. I've taken more pictures in the last 3 weeks than I took in the previous 3 months. I just love the ergonomics, size, image quality and the limiteds. I don't need full frame. If Pentax came out with one, I would buy it because it is a Pentax:-)
