Experience with M42 Mount 2X Converter

I am wondering if anyone has actual experience with the Telemore 2X teleconverter in M42 mount and if, like many such add-ons, degrades images quality so as to make it unusable, or if it is a respectable item for serious photography. I know of the Telemore95 and the Telemore95 II, and that this company also produced such converters for well known medium format cameras. Any information appreciated, thank you, James

All converters degrade the image quality because of the extra optics. Older converters suffer on digital from the coatings. All that aside, the only way you can tell if they work or not is to take some pictures and see if they are useful to you.

As an example, I am trying to decide on the usefulness of the Pentax AFA 1.7X on my M 400 lens versus just cropping the image. I occasionally get a picture that looks like it will work, but I'm thinking that loss of light resulting in slow shutter speeds make it less than usable. My K10d just cannot work all that well with ISO above 400, and I'm pretty well always up there with the converter to get any decent shutter speed.

Maybe I just need to sell the converter and the K10 and get a K5 for the better high ISO.

Thank you for that insight. It is always good when someone has hands-on experience in deciding just how much to invest on any experiment.
