Hi guys, i was wondering anyone ever tried the lens turbo on a sony A7r?
It seems Pentax FF is a tad bit long wait... so I am thinking alternatives. I like using manual lens and also with the sany's focus peaking it should be a breeze...
Another question, If a Pentax FF lens is used with the lens turbo on the A7r, it would throw a longer focus length?

Wrong, the Lens Turbo has a .72x focal reducer that is for full frame lenses on APS-C sensor NEX cameras or FF VG900, A7 and A7r in APS-C mode.

Here it is on my NEX-3N with 50mm F1.4 FA Pentax that works like a 36mm F1.0 lens.

If you were to use a Sony A7r, you already have a full frame sensor. So you can just use a regular Pentax to Sony E mount adapter. The whole purpose of the Lens Turbo is to concentrate the image into a smaller, brighter projection onto the sensor. It takes a full frame sized image and concentrates it to APS-C size. So if you used the lens turbo on the A7r, you would have dark or black corners in the picture.

The full frame VG900, A7 and A7r have optional APS-C crop mode so it should work with the Lens Turbo without vignetting but full frame lenses would work better in their native full frame mode.

That would be awesome. They could even design one that uses a shorter registration distance (As sony E mount for example) and place the reducer "inside" the mirror box in a camera like the succesor of the K-01.

For DSLRs, an autofocus (or not) reducer with electronic contacts would rock...
Exactly what I was thinking - you could create the oft-discussed K1000d without having to sink money into FF sensors. Whack a K3 sensor (or even the K5-IIs) into a body a la the LX/K1000 along with the converter built into the mount, a really good EVF and focus peaking and I'd be very happy indeed.

using a lens turbo in any situation sort of seems to me like you are shooting through the bottom of a coke bottle.

but playing the devils advocate... the a7r has a serious problem with muddy corners and sides when used with most rangefinder glass, and most lenses wider than 35mm focal length.

which basically ruins at least 25% of the frame... you can even see it on the expensive new sony zoom, with infinity shots at 24mm focal length.

so it would be interesting to see the lens turbo effect with that same glass, on the a7r... even if it's only at 15mp aps-c resolution.

The 36mp Sony A7r with SDXC card is much smaller than the Pentax LX with motor drive and bulk film back.

If you are trying to get the worst possible image then use the worst possible lens with the Lens Turbo but anyone should know to just stick with full frame DSLR lenses on the full frame Sony E mount cameras. The Lens Turbo is made for full frame lenses on APS-C cameras and if it made the image look like shooting through the bottom of a coke bottle there would not be a single one sold. It's amazing why someone would want to use an expensive rangefinder lens when the lower cost DSLR lenses work much better.

People talk about how compact the old film SLRs were but they forget most had no motor drive standard and when motor drive was added they were much larger than the 36mp Sony A7r full frame.

Ahhh, I see. Absolutely - in terms of features per cubic centimetre digital is miles ahead. I was more thinking of the opportunity Pentax might have to create what the Nikon DF could/should have been if they wanted to stick to APS-C, but offer people more use of legacy lenses as they were intended to be used.

Unless the APS-C Pentax is a mirrorless like the Sony NEX cameras there is no way to use a Lens Turbo type adapter on it.
