My first Sony P&S was the HX5V and I did manage to get some great shots out of it but compared to my D7000 it was no contest. So it was with some slight trepedition when I purchased the RX100 and I have hardly touched the D7000 since - looking at your shots from the HX50v I can see Sony have definitely improved the small sensor but it seems you have had to add quite a fair amount of sharpening? The shots are lovely but look a bit too digital to my eyes - where as I can hardly see any difference between th RX100 and my APS-C dslr in the lower ISO.

My ultimate best pic with HX5V - many others but I found this one outstanding

Cheers

No sharpening on any of the photos, and the ones on the first page are straight off the camera. My recent ones are all processed using Nik Collection, but I mainly do colour changes, vignetting, film effects etc.

I am a bit of an unconventionalist when it comes to processing - the apparent sharpness of the photos are actually achieved through contrast manipulation. Also when my photos appear saturated, it's not because I have been pushing the saturation slider - I increase black level.

I agree the RX100 is a better camera - amazing image quality, but I have been enjoying the HX50v because it is a fun camera. RX100 is a miniaturised DSLR, the HX50v is more a miniaturised superzoom.
