Sony A3000 - new 20MP sensor looks great

Although JPEG pictures only (with NR), new Sony 20MP sensor looks great.

Sony A3000 First Impressions Review: Digital Photography Review

QuoteQuote:
Perhaps the most glaring miscue is that there's no infrared proximity sensor to switch between the LCD and EVF. Instead you have to press a button on the top of the A3000, one that's difficult to reach over the Mode dial with your hand on the grip. A small thing, but for a camera that is designed to appeal to customers on the showroom floor of Best Buy and Costco, it'll likely fail the first test everyone will naturally put to the camera when they pick it up and look through the viewfinder - expecting it to perform like an SLR, they'll wonder why the finder is black.

Our concern is that while it was designed to appeal to those who want the perception of professional quality offered by the SLRs of other manufacturers (Sony openly admitted as much to us), despite its appearance the A3000 fails in two key ways: it neither feels like an SLR nor does it function entirely like an SLR either. And as potential buyers move down the counter trying the various other cameras on display, we think they'll notice the difference.
I guess you could do worse for $400. I wonder if we'll see that sensor in a K-mount.

Just wondering, why they have not used this new sensor in NEX 5T

Ouch, the viewfinder thing is a huge fail. The article is right, the market they're going for is all about first impressions. It's not like they didn't already have the technology to do this, and do it well. How much could that have saved them? Charge 405 for the camera if you have to.

I reckon 90% of the users of the camera will be using the LCD screen rather than the viewfinder to compose. At 399 with the kit lens, no real reason to fuss about this. Figure it a NEX-3 with a DSLR type body, and viewfinder built in...not to mention the new 20mp sensor. I am sure the A5000, 6000, 7000 and FF 9000 in the future will be much more advanced than this one.

it is a fat NEX. Maybe nickname "NAX" or "FEX"?

I like the idea of DSLR style with E-mount. Upgraded from NEX-5N to NEX-6, because of the viewfinder, which allows better stabilization by holding the camera to my face.
However, still a little hard when a longer lens is mounted. A3000 should provide better grip and better stabilization. Most important: NO lens is required! the e-mount lens and many old manual lenses are ready for it.
I just hope they can add in body shake reduction to this line sometime, since the body now has more space for this system. I know the most E-mount lenses are stabilized on lens, but there are still some unstabilized. And it could be such a good news for old lens user!
Well, now it is just a fat NEX. Maybe nickname "NAX" or "FEX"?

It's probably because the 20MP sensor do not have on-sensor PDAF, and this sensor might be manufactured for low cost, not high performance. So it's not really any upgrade of the 16MP sensor.

Well that means overhere that the K-500 is 25 % more expensive then this entry-offering. How can anyone earn money on this cheap offering?

It is actually $600 vs $400, both with 18-55 kit lens. 50% pricer. although many was downgraded on A3000.

They won't make any money on this camera. That's not the point. The point is to take market share from entry level DSLRs from consumers who don't know any better and lock them into E-mount lenses. I doubt that they even want to sell all that many...get them in the store and hard sell them on a NEX-5 whatever.

I've been low balling Nex6s on ebay for about a month because I want a K-mount lens turbo. Here Sony has released a camera for about what I was low balling -- and undoubtedly the price is going to significantly drop from its pre-release level.

Between Sony and Olympus dropping all kinds of spoilers and rumors, when is Pentax going to show off some new bodies?

Except for APS-C sensor and interchangeable lens, A3000 looks to have lower specification than Pentax X-5. I guess Sony has a big discount on sensor price, so they can sell A3000 as low as twice the price of Pentax X-5. 200k dot EVF was hot when Minolta used it on DiMage A1 in 2003.

So A3000 is really about finding the cheapest possible parts and putting it together in a camera with very low specification.

So this is the first Sony Alpha with no A-mount, that is a good start to stop with it!

Well those images are made by someone who is used to take images with some better equipement, so looks good to lure those innocent people into buying this A3000.

Well most people in shops like Media markt don't even know what they are buying, but do see the great price and the salesmen saying, I bought one for my son too!!!!!!!!!!
