Let'c compare the Sigma 135mm F/1.8 to the Pentax version.... Or maybe the 24mm F/1.4? Or the 24-70mm F/2.0?

Pentax doesn't make any of the lenses on the list (other than the 50mm). Hard to know what Pentax versions would look like or weigh.
Sure, let´s not forget to compare the sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 OS at 1,35Kg with the DA50-135/2.8 at 765 GRAMS...

I don´t care about playing this game but stop being such a jackass... It´s easy to design fast without size or weight restrictions... Luckily, there´s a wallet / taste / need and APPLICATION for everything.

Carrlangas has a point, though. Compactness is always very low on Sigma's list of priorities. Whatever happens, you can count on these lenses being very bulky.

haha, I´ll never know. 300/4 at 1Kg is all I´d hold. Add a good TC if more range is needed

I'm glad I never really shoot longer than 100mm, as things get very big and expensive very fast out there on the long end. I'll just stick with the 18-35mm whenever it comes out. I might be interested in the 50mm, but only because it'll drive down the price of the current version.

Oh yeah, I hope (for the sake of the rest of you) that these new telephotos will be smaller than their 200-500mm f/2.8...

(yours for only $26,000)

Primes are nearly always smaller than their zoom counterparts....though there have been some notable exceptions in the past.

Sigma's ramping up...I'd like to see their Foveon department do the same.

Yes. I wish Sigma would find ways to address some of the color/noise issues at higher ISO. I would love to see Pentax use a Foveon APS-C sensor. I just don't know if Sigma has the ability to develop the technology on their own.

Me too, but I hold out little hope. It took eight years to get to the second-generation X3, and only three years have passed since then. Sigma's lens development is going full-steam, but I've seen no indication that they're putting the same energy into their sensor development.

I may end up looking stupid saying thing (and I hope I DO, because I'd love it if they did make it) but I don't think that 24-70 f2 can exist.
Here is why:
For a long time the equation with what is possible in a zoom lens has been, f2.8 is good for 3x zoom in a 35mm sensor. 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8.
The same applied with cropped sensors only with slightly more zoom available, DA 16-50 f2.8, CaNikon 17-55 f2.8 pushed the zoom range as far as it had gone.
Then Sigma blew us away with an f1.8 zoom lens. WHOA. Only it did come at a cost - that is, slightly less than 2x zoom, rather than a bit more than 3. And it was only available on a cropped sensor, and the thing is huge (not complaining, but for an 18-35 lens, it is very big).

Now, they're saying that not only can we extend that range to 2.8x rather than 2x, (24-70 as rumoured), but that's available in FF?! If this DOES exist, it's going to be a beast. And I mean a beast, like 86mm front element, 1.4kg at least.
I am also not saying that no one would buy it... an f2 zoom on FF would just be so amazing, that of course people would buy it... but personally I don't think it's real.
Like I said, I hope I'm proven wrong.

The long telephotos would be very interesting, in case they would be available in K-mount.

Using the basic N=F/D calculation,

500/4.5 would be 111mm front element diameter.
400/2.8 would be 142mm front element diameter.

I think it'll be quite a bit heavier than the 500 F4.5.
That's quite a chunk to carry around ... maybe with a wheelbarrow ?
Thanks for the info ... I should have done my homework before asking.

Cheers!
