Nikon D610 Announced

Fixes the dust issue and has a few minor spec improvements. Quite a controversial launch I'd say!

Yes, if they had even made one moderate upgrade, like adding a 1/8000 shutter, I would consider the D610. But as it stands, it certainly does not seem that Nikon should be rewarded for it's business practices by getting my money. Between this, and the way Nikon has been handling warranty repairs in the last couple years, I am very hesitant to venture back into the Nikon camp.

Canon's CPS is actually a lot quicker than Nikon's from what I've read...

I don't think this release is going to get them any fans. However, it will surely sell as I'm sure many have decided to hold off with their FF purchase because of the dust issue...

My only experience I've had with Nikon service is sending in a D600 for a sensor cleaning. It came back with a new sensor and shutter assembly installed. It didn't cost me a dime not even for shipping and handling. That was an expensive fix for them and the camera store even gave me a loner while I waited! Seemed like a sweet deal. I was impressed.

I think if most had been treated as you, they would be happy. Most didn't get a free loaner and many had stains appear right after replacement only to have to face the prospect of sending it in yet again.

I have to think Nikon looked at their sales numbers after the stain issue got on the radar of potential purchasers and decided they needed to make a clean break to try to get back consumer confidence and see decent sales in their entry level full frame offering.

I think the difference was the camera store sending in the camera instead of me doing it. I think Nikon views service for a camera store or big name photographer with a NPS account different than a regular Joe Schmo like me.

That's all well and good. The nearest camera store to me is about 90 minutes drive away.
