Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess:

I stole this photo from the 6x7 adapting thread here on PF.

But I think you really should compare like to like. The A7 body to the K-01 body... Of course the first wins, in both looks and specs.

Moreover, that thing you see between the A-mount lens and the A7 is an A to E-mount AF adapter. It's bulk of the the missing mirrorbox and translucent mirror you're seeing there. And I think a lot of us would be terrificly happy with a PK to E-mount AF converter, even if it could have been prettier.

It's hard not to play pick 'n' mix. I'd like one of these new sensors (since they are likely superb) in a Ricoh GR or Sony body with Pentax levels of build, sealing and WR, a Ricoh or Pentax OS with TAV, built-in high-quality EVF, Sony apps and wifi instead of some awful card for which you pay extra, a Nikon mount (to take Zeiss or Voigtlander primes) and revved up FA lenses like the 24mm, 43mm et al (49mm diameter where possible to keep down weight and size), IBIS, and good enough AF to capture moving targets reliably. A well-designed grip for an extra battery. You can keep the monster zoom lenses and heavy bragging-rights 1.4s with huge diameters - Nikon or Canon will serve you plenty if that's what you want, and some do. Just 3-5 compact primes and I'm done: the perfect lighter weight travel kit of great quality, kind of does for 2014 what the original K7 and DA Limited primes did in 2007 or whenever. But, alas, I am not holding my breath. Sony are knocking on the right door, I think, but with the wrong lenses.

I have been waiting to pick up a mirrorless system for a while now. It will be very hard to resist the 7r.

It won't be hard to resist if I have to start buying new lenses for it (OK, maybe one CZ would be nice). If the K-mount adapter isn't AE (I'm not hopeful there'll be an AF motor built into it) and isn't compact, I'll not be taking this body home. That photo of the A7 plus a Sony adapter and a CZ lens has quite dampened my enthusiasm for this body. Still, I'll wait and see. The K-3 will no doubt produce good results, even if it is on an APS-C sensor.

The focus on the A7R seems to be very fast. It locks it very quickly without any hunting and I’m certain the A7 is even faster using Phase-Detect AF.
WRT to the "ugly" A7r - Zeiss 50/1.4 combo:

That was with the LA-EA4 adapter which includes an entire SLR-like PDAF module. For what it does, it still is a beauty

With different adapter, SRL lens combos should look fine.

Full frame AF adapters now exist for Alpha- and EF-mount lenses.

That is a silver Pentax-L 43mm f/1.9 Special on that camera.

The problem with using RF glass on MILC cameras is that their close focusing distances will always be longer than what is commonly seen on SLR lenses of similar focal length. This is because the accuracy of the Rangefinder decreases as the focus distance gets closer to the 1m mark - a shortcoming SLRs do not have.

The cameras are the best choice for manual lenses lovers.

As for me - I don't see AF compact and fast lens for FF E-mount from Sony.
35/2.8 is good...But I'd prefer 35/2. And 2300 USD for A7R + 800 USD for Zeiss 35/2.8 = 3100 USD....I don't want A7 with AA filter.
As for Europe - the price will be higher.
Too much for travel variant. I can't see what I can get from such combo...K-5IIs + FA*24/2 is rather good for me.

I use fotodiox pk to nex adapters for my nex cameras. They measure close to 1" in length. When i look at this picture, the FF emount adapter for the FA-43 sure doesn't look like its as long as my aps e-mount adapter.

But it is - right? i.e. the emount registration distance for FF = aps emount registration distance. Sure doesn't look that way in the above pic.

Anyway, i'm glad to see that Sony did themselves proud with the A7 and A7r. Both the pictures and video looked pretty nice. And all the controls looked well thought out, with very few negatives mentioned by the reviewers.

The problem is, the K3 also looks very nice with double card slots, AA filter switchable, incredible focusing sensitivity range, quieter shutter than A7. I'll probably stick with my Nex6 and a K3(or K5 iis) eventually. But Sony made it a hard choice.

That is not a normal K-mount 43mm LTD. The Pentax 43mm LTD shown on that camera is the Pentax SMC PENTAX-L 43mm f/1.9 SPECIAL Screw Mount which was designed for a Leica RF body.

this intrigues me a lot. Its a small FF camera. What I do not like, and why I am not going to sell my pentax gear is the lack of affordable lenses. 1000+ $ for a 55mm 1.8? come on! waiting for sigma to jump in and give me some cheaper alternatives
