OFF TOPIC ANNOUNCEMENT:

Nikon just announced a 58mm F1.4G lens for 2 grand... I wonder how that stacks up against the DA*55mm & Sigma 50 F1.4. (I realize the Sigma is only a 47mm)

No doubt Sigma will *refresh* their 50 F1.4 and turn it into an "A" lens, hopefully improving it optically, for about 1/3 the price of the Nikon.

You missed the 24mm F/1.8 which has not been announced, but is listed with image samples.

That is shown as an APS-C lens. I plan on getting the full frame Vario-Tessar T* FE 24-70mm F4 ZA OSS with Optical SteadyShot image stabilization for my full frame Sony NEX-VG900 as a zoom companion to my full frame 24mm F1.4, 35mm F1.4, 50mm F1.4 and 85mm F1.4 primes.

See the 24mm shown on the right hand side with the rest of the FE lenses.

It appears Sony designed the 24mm to cover a FF image circle and just didn't market it because if they did everyone would have known what was coming.

It's for APS-C format NEX cameras.

So why is Sony including it in promotional pieces for the A7?

It could be used in APS-C mode but B&H did not show it in their A7/A7r promo.

Sony has announced no fewer than five 'FE' full frame E-mount lenses to accompany the A7 and A7R. First up is the FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS, an image-stabilised 'kit' zoom for the A7. There are three premium lenses with Zeiss badges: the FE 55mm F1.8 ZA Carl Zeiss Sonnar T*, the FE 35mm F2.8 ZA Carl Zeiss Sonnar T*, and the FE 24-70mm F4 ZA OSS Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar T*. The fifth lens is a 'G' class telezoom, the FE 70-200mm F4 G OSS.

All of the lenses can be used in APS-C mode, so if that is they case why weren't all of them included in the Sony marketing piece?

Sony elected to include the 24mm F/1.8 in its marketing for the A7. The reason the 24mm F/1.8 is a $1,000 lens is because its designed to cover the FF image circle. It's pricing and build quality is on par with the rest of the FE lenses.

Just because it cost $1,000 does not make it a full frame lens. Show me a link saying it covers the full frame sensor.

No. It doesn't. The E 24/1.8 is 2-4 time higher than any other APS-C E-mount prime lens including the 35mm F/1.8.

The fact that Sony is including it with the FE lenses in the release marketing and the its build quality, specifications, and pricing are inline with the other FE lenses lead me to draw that conclusion.

The 24mm is basically a 35mm on an APS-C or in APS-C mode so why would anybody with an A7 buy a $1,000 24mm lens to use in crop mode when a FF 35mm is available for $200 less?

It's a Zeiss lens and you will not see Zeiss lenses in the bargain bin.

Hasselblad launches the A7 clone named Solar ($10.000)

Hasselblad only waited 24h to announce their own A7 clone named “Hasselblad Solar“. I can imagine now the masses of people canceling their preorder at Amazon US to get this $10,000 luxury version! Joke I really like Hasselblad for what they did in the past..and I would love to see them work on a Hassy-Sony medium format camera!

Nice example of how not to PP an image from a camera that doesn't have an AA filter. I hope they didn't pay much for the makeup artist.
