A lot of wild speculation going on with this retro camera. I think we'll just have to wait a few weeks and find out.

I have a XP1 and the retro-style camera design on that camera does not translate well to a modern camera. And by that I mean a film rangefinder you could just wrap your hands around it to hold it. No problem. The controls were on the top and the lens. But in the case of the XP1, the back is so filled with buttons that it makes it is difficult to hold with man-size hands and not inadvertently push unwanted buttons.

So making a modern retro-style camera it would be wise to keep it simple and not load the back up with buttons unless it has something of a hand grip to its design.

Excellent point, tuco. KISS certainly should apply to this retro-design camera. I would hope the back is rather sparsely filled.

Yup, and it shows as much as a hotshoe, the front of the new lens, and we hear a shutter sound that may or may not be the actual one in the upcoming camera.
It sounds like my old K2...

Nikon - Pure Photography #1 - YouTube
I wonder whether "It's in my hands again" is the right voice-over for a film showing a man in a raincoat doing something funny at belt-buckle level.

Especially as Nikon doesn't look to bundle a zoom with the camera...

Price aside, this camera seems like it would be right up your alley.

The name will be "Nikon DF" | Nikon Rumors

The new retro FX DSLR camera will be called Nikon DF. The interesting part is that DF will stand for "Digital Fusion". I also have two new bits of information:

The AF system of the Nikon DF will be most likely the same as in the D610 with 39 points.
The Nikon DF will have settings for 1:1, 3:2 and 16:9 aspect ratios. The strange part here is the 16:9 ratio since the camera is expected not to have video.
"I am now 100% sure that the D4H specifications I posted yesterday were 100% fake. Sorry about that."

hopefully that means that the price has the chance of being more realistic as well.

I'm still hoping they are waiting for announcements of others and see their price points.
They must have one more shot for the 2013 — they simply can't leave it at this.
