Sigma DP3 Merrill

I don't suppose there are any Sigma DP3 users here?

I am looking at a DP3m to replace my K-7 and FA43. I already have the DP1x which I prefer to the K-7 and FA20-35 (now sold).

Just wondering how the DP3 50mm might compare to the FA 43mm lens. I like the idea of the DP3 as the lens seems sharp all over the frame wide open.
I rarely shoot the FA43 wider than f2.8 anyway in most of my use, the 1:3 'macro' mode on the DP3m will be useful too.

Ta, Rob

Thanks, i was asking here in particular if there was the slim chance that anyone had compared a Pentax camera with the FA43 and the DP3 Merrill.
I will have a wonder over to the Serious Compacts site, not seen that one.
Cheers, Rob

If the DP3M had a 50/1.8 lens instead of 50/2.8 macro, I would probably own one.

DP users seem to love macro, though. I've seen many great DP macro shots from a variety of Foveon cameras. Maybe Sigma knows their audience. But I'd rather have a semi-portrait lens that lets you take advantage of ISO 200.

I have the FA43 and the DP2M. I haven't done a direct comparison. But it is apples and oranges. The DP2M produces outstanding detailed images but has many usage issues. The FA43 is an outstanding lens as well that is more useful in low light situations. Personally I wouldn't have the Sigma DP2M as my only camera. But in the right conditions it is truly peerless in image quality for the price.
Cheers for the advice

Not the 43, but a comparison of the DP2 with the 31mm here.

I just got a dp3 too and compared to my k5 with fa 50 f1.7 or da* 50-135 f2.8 its miles ahead for IQ but only in the situations it shines in.

This shot was with the k5 and da* 50-135 at the top and the sigma dp3m at the bottom, both camera's focused onto the light stand and default sharping.

Here's another 100% crop from the dp3m

The detail this lens/camera combo resolves is amazing and I like the color rendition too.

This one is the k5 with fa 50mm f1.7 vs the dp3m

This was the first test I had done and It really made me think my k5 was broke or miss focused (I focused using live view at 8x?) so I re took the shot with the 50mm prime and then with my da* 16-50 and the results were the same.

Both camera's set to the same settings in all shots with the k5 needing a +0.6ev boost to match the sigma.
