i have the A7RII, and though i'm not enjoying it, i'm kind of stuck with it, so may as well utilize it to the best of its ability.
I have the Samyang 45 1.8 which is a great lens, but I mostly shoot portraits, thus i I need a portrait lens accordingly.
I also have the Samyang 135mm f2 manual focus, which is decent for outdoor stuff.
on my Pentax K1, I have the Pentax 77, Sigma 85 and 100mm macro. I am thinking of either selling the Pentax 77, or the Sigma 85 for the pentax, and getting either of the following for the sony:
Samyang 85mm 1.4 autofoucs
Viltrox 85mm 1.8
Samayang/rokinon 75mm 1.8
size doesn't really make much of a difference to me. Price, they are all around the same mark.
What I like about the 75 is that its got a switch for auto/manual focus on the lens
what i like about the viltrox is that it is a metal body, and upgrades can be done INTO the lens without the requirement of any additional pods
What I like about the 85 is that its at 1.4.
which would you choose and why?
I would like to travel (when we can again after pandemic) with a lighter body and size, yet with the lack of battery space, and only one memory card, the sony will have to stay behind while my pentax goes with me. therefore size doesn't really make much of a different to me here.
Although I don't have an A7R-type camera (I've the A7iii), I think it's not worth dismissing the Sony FE 85mm f/1.8. It's still a capable and sharp optic and 1/3 of a stop (vs f/1.4) isn't a massive difference.
I have used the Samyang 75mm f/1.8 and that's a lovely little lens. If you were to consider weight then it's a significant step ahead in terms of compact size/weight.
Another one, depending on how much you want to spend, is the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 - it's recently been revamped, so the older versions are coming up cheaper (not but cheap).
