I had an extended stopover of 16 hours on my way from Seoul to the UK so utilised it by spending some time in the city. Scouted around a bit ready for twilight, was feeling poorly due to a heavy cold, so didn't see as much as I would have liked.

looking to pick up the FE 50mm 1.8 for my Sony A7RII.
sure, all i'm hearing are horrible reviews on the lens. Yet all I'm seeing are decent shots through the lens. Even youtube also indicates that it is a great lens with a horrible build quality.

if the results are decent, it can be made out of paper for all I care.

how bad is the lens, really?

mostly going to use it for portraits, and never for travel.

My second trip to Doha in a few weeks. Last time it was nice and warm - around 22 degrees C. This time it was 11-13 degrees C and very windy.

My trip to Denmark was cut short due to the country being locked down, so I didn't get to shoot as much as I would have liked...

From Aalborg one very dull damp morning:

1 minute exposure...

A7R4 24 - 105

I'm not sure if this BW version is a little TOO contrasty...

Have been doing my daily exercise by walking my 18 month old son to the beach in his pram. It's around 8 miles round trip on foot, though extended it to 11 miles today. He enjoyed his play in the park at half way through, plus the ice cream from the cafe on the seafront.

could use your advice, the sony users here.
i have the A7RII, and though i'm not enjoying it, i'm kind of stuck with it, so may as well utilize it to the best of its ability.
I have the Samyang 45 1.8 which is a great lens, but I mostly shoot portraits, thus i I need a portrait lens accordingly.
I also have the Samyang 135mm f2 manual focus, which is decent for outdoor stuff.

on my Pentax K1, I have the Pentax 77, Sigma 85 and 100mm macro. I am thinking of either selling the Pentax 77, or the Sigma 85 for the pentax, and getting either of the following for the sony:
Samyang 85mm 1.4 autofoucs
Viltrox 85mm 1.8
Samayang/rokinon 75mm 1.8

size doesn't really make much of a difference to me. Price, they are all around the same mark.

What I like about the 75 is that its got a switch for auto/manual focus on the lens
what i like about the viltrox is that it is a metal body, and upgrades can be done INTO the lens without the requirement of any additional pods
What I like about the 85 is that its at 1.4.

which would you choose and why?

I would like to travel (when we can again after pandemic) with a lighter body and size, yet with the lack of battery space, and only one memory card, the sony will have to stay behind while my pentax goes with me. therefore size doesn't really make much of a different to me here.

Although I don't have an A7R-type camera (I've the A7iii), I think it's not worth dismissing the Sony FE 85mm f/1.8. It's still a capable and sharp optic and 1/3 of a stop (vs f/1.4) isn't a massive difference.
I have used the Samyang 75mm f/1.8 and that's a lovely little lens. If you were to consider weight then it's a significant step ahead in terms of compact size/weight.
Another one, depending on how much you want to spend, is the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 - it's recently been revamped, so the older versions are coming up cheaper (not but cheap).
