Nikon D4s high iso is 409,600

I thought ISO 51200 is pretty much the limit.... but the new Nikon flagship iso is insane.

3 stop more than iso 51200? and claimed 'clean image' at iso 25600!

You'd need a K3 as well.

6 MP = magazine cover.
10 MP = 24x36

Some will disagree and say these are not top notch, but an acquaintance just paid me good money for a copy of a 16x24 canvas gallery wrap I have, and it is just gorgeous. 16x24 is actually printed 19x27 to allow for wrapping the sides. The camera was my trusty K10D with the DA 12-24 at 12mm. The same camera and lens combination produced a 20x30 metallic print for a local real estate office. I wonder just how big a print from the K-3 could go?

Its not how high it can go that i am concerned about. Its how low the iso i am looking at.

For the money and being the top of Nikon`s roster, it should be able to be able to go below iso 100.

I was joking! First large print I ever sold was 24x36 from a K10D. You could look at it so close, you'd get cross eyed. My wife insisted on a large canvas from a grab shot of a flower stall at a Framers market. It's 30x45 and our neighbor who runs a frame shop gave it a thumbs up. With a good raw exposure and a copy of Perfect Resize (aka Genuine Fractals), you can go really big.

The issue at high iso really isn't noise -- you can clean up as 12,800 image on a K5 without too much problem. It is dynamic range that drops at really high iso, such that you end up having to turn photos into black and white images. These really high isos are more about bragging rights. I have seen a couple of 51,200 iso photos from a K5 that were OK, but I haven't ever used it myself. I can't imagine that 409k is any better on a D4s.

It's coming the only question is when.

I can't think of a single technical improvement more important than improved ISO performance all else being equal.
A camera is a light machine. Improve light sensitivity and all else is improved in useability along with it (lens' etc).
In a camera like this new Nikon a f/3.5 lens would become a "fast" lens for instance.

Here's one I tried just as a worst case experiment. Very low light shot with my K5 and a cheapo superzoom.
Useable but it took an impracticable amount of fussing in PP to get even this. I must have worked on it for an hour or so.
Actually it looks a bit brighter than the actual scene, because just as you say low DR - you have to hype up the midrange unrealistically or it tends to get too dull and lifeless looking.

I wonder how it would have turned out with this new Nikon?

Well, the big reason for these type settings tend to get really fast shutter speeds in situations where light is fair, but not poor. As such, I would think with some noise reduction, web size posting (without cropping) will be possible. It still isn't going to give you 8 by 10 type prints, though.
