Samsung Launches ISOCELL: Innovative Image Sensor Technology for Premium Mobile Devices

Samsung has inserted barriers between photosites to reduce cross-talk by 30% and to permit larger photosites, thereby improving the chief ray angle 20% (i.e. accepting light at more oblique angles).

They've put this into a cell phone. I have no idea whether this would scale up or be advantageous for larger sensors. But 30% here and 20% there is a pretty good improvement.

Assuming this scales to larger sensors, it could be most beneficial for mirrorless cameras using adapted lenses with relatively oblique chief ray angles at the corners.

Yeah, read about that on dpreview. Very interesting, wounder if they (Samsung) will eventually develop it enough to where they'll put it in there cameras in a few years.

I was hoping for a clear gain in noise and dynamic range. But early camera samples comparing it with current sensors show no noticeable improvement.

The thing with announcements like this is that these figures say very little on how much improvement we can expect. A reduction of 30% may sound like a lot, but it could FI be reduction of cross-talk between pixels from 10% to 7%.
