Thanks Sue! We couldn't keep her, so she has a new home now with a family with 3 kids - they'll keep each other busy I'm sure.

Typical Texas summer day - hot, with crepe myrtle blooming everywhere. Canon SD1100:

My new employer provided me with a new phone, a Huawei P10. The thing has two cameras on the back; one colour and one monochrome - Leica branded, so I'm sure the results should be indistinguishable from that of the Leica Monochrom It does seem to provide good results, though, combining the information from the two cameras. Also, the monochrome camera seems to get away with one stop lower ISO for equal exposure, so I suppose getting rid of the Bayer filter lets in more light.

Anyway, a couple of shots with the new toy

Testing the monochrome camera.

Nice! I have a preference for the colour, in this case.

Thanks, yes, I think the "golden hour" light looks better in colour. And I generally like more contrast in my monochrome images. I do think they have managed to eke out a decent amount of detail from the tiny sensor, though. One thing that is slightly annoying, however, is that while you can shoot in raw mode in colour, you get only jpeg from the monochrome camera. That diminishes its value as for low-light shooting.

I need to play some more with the "wide aperture" mode, too. While far from perfect, when it works out I think the f/0.95 simulation looks quite good. And quite fun to be able to choose the focus point after the shot has been made

Thanks Must say your old Powershot holds up well, too!

Here I just wanted to see what happened when I shot stright into the sun. The thing handled it quite well, I think.

I think it did too!

Well, I picked up yet another old Canon Powershot, this time a 7.1 mpx A560. Got it for practically free on the 'bay. A very basic p&s - no IS, or much in the way of manual controls. But it uses AAs and has a viewfinder

Another phone shot. Trying the "wide aperture simulation" mode. They're doing some magic with the dual camera setup to calculate the different focal planes, from what I gather.

Kitty Contentment

Toby has long days of hard work (so he tells me) and needs his rest. Shot with iPhone6S + Cortex Camera, and edited on the phone in Snapseed. I have NO idea how it appears on a big screen

Ha! Not too badly, at all.

My turn for a canon confession, took the old A720IS, and SX270HS out for a ramble to the park.

Definitely the end of the summer here, but interesting and colourful, all the same. Canon "vivid" style, excepting the A720IS, which I think still has the sharpest lens of the lot:

The SX270 has range, but gets slow - was using it with flash a lot today:

This guy came stalking by as I was playing with menu settings:

Just a nice day on the river; lots of folks out and enjoying it:

I have to thank Jaquot and Mr. Bassie for the inspiration after stumbling upon Rupert's thread this weekend! My new toy is my old iPhone 5s and the Hipstamatic App! (Taken today... she just turned 16 this month!)
