ACR Camera/color profiles

With Fuji's film sim profiles now available in Adobe Camera Raw, it got me thinking... Is the color profile just an embedded algorithm in the RAW file, or is it something on the Adobe side? Either way... is it possible to use color/camera profiles from other cameras? ie: I want to use a Nikon Vivid profile on my Pentax K3? or the Provia color profile from a Fuji XT-1 on my Nikon D800?

Its an ICC profile (an industry standard)

Yes, use Photome or similar program to change the model of your camera to the one that has the profile youd like to use. That way you "fool" lightroom. Only thing, make sure you write the camera model exactly as it shows on the exif.
Ive done this to be able to use an old profile I had made for my K-5 on my K-5IIs and it worked! If you change brands, perhaps youll have to change model, maker and the like. Play arround and see what happens

DxO allows you to apply one similarly with its "film packs", and Corel AfterShot Pro probably still allows applying the profile/"look" for one camera to a completely different brand/model.

You might want to check out Cross Camera Color DNG Profiles | Products | PSKiss

I bought it when it was 50% off, and have found it useful at times. I particularly like a couple of the Canon profiles.
