Jason, nice pics.

Btw, i briefly tested out FA 77mm, FA 85mm, and F 70-210mm. They are all functional. But not interesting enough to be posted here.

If you have other lens, please share your results. I will also be interested to read if your 31mm works or not.

Thank you all for contributing.

Is that the Lens Turbo II, or the original Lens Turbo?
Either way, nice results.

I received this one yesterday: NEW Pentax PK Focal Reducer Speed Booster Adapter TO Sony NEX 5 6 7 FS700 FS100 | eBay

I've only done a few test shots so far with the FA 28mm, FA 50 1.4, D FA 100 macro and A 135mm f2.8. Performance is generally good, but wide open corners get soft and CA can be ugly. So far I'm not sure why I should use it, rather than using a wider lens on APS-C. I did see a big blue blob, when I shot the FA 28 with the sun just outside the frame.

Hmm Audiobomber

I am sorry to hear that. I dont have FA 28mm to test out. However, the product linked does look a bit different than the one i received. The rear opening of my lens turbo ii is kinda rectangular-ish. Mine looks more this ????

That looks like an off brand, not a Lens Turbo.

The RJ Lens Turbo seems to be mostly higher rated than the Mitakon in the net blather I read. Someone claimed that RJ is more tightly toleranced than Zhongyi/Mitakon, and used the same element. That does not appear to be accurate, since the elements in the latest version appear different than the rectangular Turbo II element.

I am familiar with RJ from buying their knockoff Pentax lens hoods, which are impressive. This is the new Lens Turbo, supposed to resolve the blue dot issue. Here's a review:

I can verify the same thing happens with the M20/4 and M28/3.5. Both lenses bump the rear elements just short of the infinity mark.

Dammit! I just emailed RJ. He said his element for NEX is comparable with the Turbo 1. The machining is tight, I will say. There is actually less purple fringing using the RJ Lens Turbo than there is with my cheap NEX to PK adapter. I may have to try the plain no-glass K adapter from RJ.

I've used the Turbo twice. I took it out for a day of nature/landscape shooting, with my FA 28, FA 50 1.4 and A 135mm f2.8. IQ is not good, the corners are pretty mushy and images don't have the same pop as they do on the K-3 or the Touits on my a6000. I will not use a Turbo for general purpose shooting again. On the plus side, only one image of 300 showed blue dot. On two other shots, I could see blue dot before I released the shutter, so I readjusted and it went away.

The second outing was a photo shoot of my 7-month old granddaughter. I used the Turbo with the D FA 100mm, aperture set to f4. It did OK here, the focal length was very comfortable, but quite a few shots were spoiled by my focussing, and composition got sloppy worrying that focus peaking was in the right plane. DOF was about 6 inches, and babies are a moving target.

I think my RJ Turbo will probably live in the back of a closet. Most uses will be better served with a native AF lens mounted directly on the K-3 or a6000. The "gain a stop" trick may come in handy sometime.

I should update this to let you know that I shimmed the LT2 lens mount with two layers of black electrical tape, and the problem is solved.

Shimming turbo II

Let me introduce myself, I live in the UK and have just bought the Lens Turbo II and would like to share that I have the same issue with my 35mm f2.8 SMC-M lens. Infinity is reached at 15ft and before the infinity mark the rear element of the lens and the front element of the Turbo II make contact. I'm wondering if the Turbo II can be adjusted rather than shimming, so that the infinity mark on the lens corresponds to infinity focus on the NEX. If not I will try to make shims to move the lens out from the adapter maybe with some layers of thin paper. Has anyone ever made a template of the Pentax mount that can be printed at the correct size and cut out? I guess it would be best to put the shim under the K mount, has anyone tried this?

jcdoss, is this how you did it?

Thanks and regards,
Mike.

These were all taken with my first generation Lens Turbo K to Fuji X-mount, with the K-135mm f2.5 lens.
It is really hard to nail focus wide open with this lens. F2.5 doesn't sound like much, but the DOF is pretty small with 135mm.

Zhongyi Optics Reply

What a suprise given I received feedback from Zhongyi Optics yesterday. I wrote them email regarding to incompatiblity problem toward 31mm on June 9th, 2014 and finally, they replied yesterday July 17th, 2014..... I posted the original text and quick translation below. I am not satisfied with their customer service but better than no reply and those manufacters with robotic answers.

Translation: First we would like to say sorry toward the problem you encounter. When you use focal reducer, it should read the instruction saying that focal reducer is not compatible with all lens. If your lens doesn't work, you should seek reseller and within certain time frame, they should give you refund. Now you are over your refund period, if you take your lens and focal reducer and lens and explain to them, they should be able to process it. Another method if you mail back your lens and lens turbo ii to us, I can see if I can adjust it for you.

My take: Since I purchased lens turbo II oversea, it would be too much hassle shipping, custom, and exchange fee involved even within refund period. My initial thought would be contacting the manufacturer but their customer service turnaround time was over 30 days which was not acceptable. I would say whoever is interested, please buy locally. I will be posting compatiblity summary from all your feedbacks so far on the first page of this thread (if you don't like being posted, please let me know). Hope this will help.

Incompatibilities

I would like to report further tests with my Turbo II and Pentax lenses -

Pentax-M 40mm F/2.8 Pancake

Works fine, focusses to infinity and does not touch the front element of the Turbo II. Looks OK even into the corners.

Pentax-M 50mm F/1.7

Works fine, focusses to infinity and does not touch the front element of the Turbo II. Looks OK even into the corners.

Pentax-M 28mm f/2.8 1st version

Does not work fine, will only focus to 1.5m on focus scale before the two glass surfaces come into contact.

Hope this information is helpful, It would be good to make a reference to show which lenses are fully compatible.

Regards,

Tessar, try the double-layer of electrical tape shim method and see if that fixes the problem you're having with your M28.
