I have read articles how the eastern gray squirrel is an invasive species in the UK much to the detriment of your native red squirrel. This shows the effect of what can go wrong when a species is released outside its native range. Here the eastern gray squirrel is a very popular backyard native resident. In the flip side here in the eastern US, two of your native birds, the house sparrow and the European Starling are very serious invasive species which are our most prolific birds in the area much to the detriment of this native bird whom I am helping have a home along with our gray squirrels. Oh Yes, Nice pictures you got.

reh321, those are some nice looking squirrels you have at the college. I assume they have lots to eat since most them are quiet healthy looking.
In general, we live in a verdant area - one has to really work to keep things from growing around here. That campus has a number of trees with seeds squirrels find to be edible. - so they eat, and eat, and eat.

truly a mouthful

some time it is the ears that alert you to the opportunity

especially with the leaves all over the place

heard it as it jumped from the leaves on the ground to the fence top, found it, then photographed it

This little girl was sucking up the sap earlier, but after a bit she moved, evidently not gracefully.

I took out my "new" Canon Eos 400D and an 18-55 lens to check out the camera properly - the camera works well but the lens is not wonderful. This little fellow was chased up a tree by a dog - he didn't seem too worried about it, I suspect it happens fairly often:

I went out today in nature to see if the Eurasian blue tit made its appearance at the place where I found it last year, but I wasn't quite prepared for him. I took with me only my 70-200mm and the 1.4x TC (280mm). I managed to get close enough to take a decent shot of him (he is shy because he didn't get the chance to know me, but we will work on that). There were a lot of small birds (hiding on the trees) of which I wasn't interested in before, but Normhead has a lot of images with similar birds and because of him I started to pay more attention to these birds. Fun little birds. I will have to go back now with a longer lens

The birds from below are:
- the blue tit
- the great tit
- the Eurasian nuthatch

But, back on topic. I got close enough to a nice squirrel who managed to steal a nut from someone.

With a tip of the hat to Rupert and Otis, here's one of the images I captured this morning of breakfast in a backyard pear tree. I shot through a sliding glass door with a handheld K-S2 and smc Pentax-F 1:4.5-5.6 100-300mm.
