Over {US} Memorial Day weekend we were in Canada, and returned via Windsor, so made our "last hurrah" stop at a park there. I had seen just a few squirrels all weekend, and had photographed none, so I was determined to photograph one there. But it was becoming a hot and muggy day - any self-respecting squirrel was probably indoor enjoying the A/C. Suddenly we saw this young lady {literally} trotting down the path toward us. Eventually she stopped, obviously puzzled. The sign clearly said "Animal Trail", not "People Trail", and yet there we were. After at least five minutes of indecision, she used the forest as a means of bypassing us.

Thank you. I learned a little about story telling from Rupert .... but I don't have his imagination.

Focus peaking is helping me with my squirrel pictures. I can still focus my Takumars without it, but it speeds up the process considerably. That helps a lot with the fidgety little rodents that don't stay put for long. Fujifilm X-T20, SMC Takumar 105 f/2.8 at f/2.8, 1/58s, ISO 400.

I missed focus on the little guy, but I still kind of like the shot.

Paul, the natural setting really makes the shot. A city park counts for natural setting for a squirrel.

I have seen very few squirrels lately, and none of them has been slow enough for me to give them what Rupert always called "their 15 minutes of fame". Between mid-May and mid-Oct, vegetation is very lush here, so squirrels can stay in their natural habitat,{now leafy} trees and munch on fresh vegetation to their heart's content. I feel glad for them .... even as I miss them.

Ditto - I hear them and they occasionally make themselves known but briefly. They are elusive while the leaves are thick.

More from Kensington Gardens, where I was testing a 24mm lens today - within about a foot of a foolhardy squirrel!

Twinkle Toes

This squirrel has earned the name "Twinkle Toes" because he could climb a 6 " pole to reach my old feeder like it was nothing and every thing in there would be on the ground in a matter of minutes! I have changed feeders and have a dedicated one for him------ If he can get to it I always put some sunflower on the ground for him just in case

My experience is that the only that will slow them down are professional solutions based on knowledge of them - feeders which "sag" and deny access based on their weight, and baffles which are too slippery and too unstable for them to climb past.
