These are from a Park at Lake Ray Hubbard after last weeks rain event. I don't think it has been going hungry

I think she's pregnant. After I brought home a similar photo last weekend, my wife did some research and determined that many squirrels, including fox squirrels, have two litters each year; the second litter is due around now.

Wildlife from our garden that I like to think Rupert would have enjoyed observing and catching with his camera.
Rupert was always very positive when I posted photos of backyard deer in this thread - he seemed to view them as large squirrels with inferior climbing ability and mediocre tails.

Our area is so verdant right now that when I put some regular sweet corn out {left over from our dinner} the animals just ignored it. I don't know what would have happened if I gave them a regular supply of peanuts .... I won't put anything else out until after the hard freeze in another month or so.

I'm going to a city park this afternoon, where people regularly put food out for ducks, to see if those squirrels are acclimated to people, or whether they're happy with all the food nature provides at this time of year.
I did go to that park, but I forgot to post any photos here. I realized that they do have squirrels, especially visible at this {oak tree planting} season, but like most people, I had usually watched the water-fowl attracted there. This time I ignored the water-fowl, and followed squirrels around; I had the feeling the squirrels were nervous .... they are used to playing second-fiddle and really are not accustomed to being watched by a person.

After seeing the last photo, my wife did some research and discovered that fox squirrels often have two litters - one in late Spring and one in early Autumn.

Norm, that first one looks like he's laughing at you.

I put a suet cake out, telling my brothers it was for the Red Bellied Woodpeckers.

Look who got first bites.

He's cussing me out because he arrived late and missed out on the peanuts in the shell.

We moved house four years ago to a house with no trees in the garden. So we rarely see squirrels now, boohoo. We’ve planted a few but they’re not big enough (yet) to have residents.

Forgot to post these from a couple of weeks ago - I was testing a Kodak Gear 78-215 (Tamron made, and sold by them as the 70-210) on my Canon in the park, an OK lens though nothing extraordinary:

Sold the lens tonight, it's OK but nothing really special.

Working Squirrels

Well I have been busy lately , and so has Miss Twinky and friend. After all the rain last week, about 15" here it was time to get ready for Winter. The neighbors "Otis" across the street and Twinky were busy harvesting acorns and burying them in our flower beds. I have only seen her at the feeder one time last week and that was during a break in the rain.

Our house has woods in the backyard. Apparently squirrels live there, but we see them only after the first freeze of the year drives them out looking for human-provided food .... according to the weather forecasts, that is still a few days away, but today I noticed one of our cats staring at the backyard, so I looked also, and this is what I saw

This little cousin meandered along the wall, oblivious to me standing above and watching through the camera viewfinder. When I clicked the shutter, he shrieked and dodged away into the bushes.

Do they eat bits of pumpkin? I seem to recall seeing a TV show that had footage of a zoo that gave pumpkins to their tigers; they seemed to love disemboweling them.
