Apparently still plenty of food up in the wooded area between us and the bypass. I put feeders out yesterday, and only the Blue Jays have shown any interest at all - and for them it was just a quick inspection stop.

This setup bombed. Today I watched as the neighborhood squirrel shimmied up the pipe, ending up with his body directly under the feeder with his face facing the back .... and when he reached the top, he slid back down when he took one paw off the pipe to try to climb up to the feeder. After briefly looking at the situation, he ran off .... so I gave up and found a {skinny} tree to attach the feeder to, a tree I think I can reach when the ground becomes snowy and slippery {it is uphill from our deck}

Well, the blue jays still seem to be the only ones eating from the "squirrel feeder", but that is OK because the squirrel is eating from the "bird feeder".

The birdfeeder has two cages to hold suet, so I put "suet for woodpeckers" in the cage of my left and "suet for songbirds" in the cage to my right. The local squirrel tasted each - then made his decision.

Finally, our squirrel feeder has been found to be OK by the squirrel.

I keep saying "the squirrel", but yesterday I saw two at the same time, and today's snow brought out three of them simultaneously.

Fortuitously spotted this guy a few days ago while testing an ancient 300mm Optomax lens (manual focus M42) on my Canon. Distance about 30-40 metres, crappy weather, not exactly the best squirrel shot I've ever taken, but at least it shows there are still squirrels around in the vicinity of my garden - I was worried the foxes had got them all.

I took this one back in March and uploaded it today because MarkJerling (moderator) said he wanted a colony of squirrels for Christmas so I put this one in the Moderator forum for him. He suggested I stuff them in my underwear and sneak them to New Zealand to him. LOL

My parents used to feed everyone and weeded the off it as they new they couldn't continue. It was a Disney time. I miss the baby raccoons most. The mom's watchd them climb us and eat grapes. The squirrels would knock at the door. Even the mole came. The cat would catch the chipmunk and let it go only to do the same the next day. Groundhog and possum hung out. There was a dark side too.

I miss my place in Arkansas, the woods surrounding us was full of wildlife, from the possums to the squirrels to the bear, to white tail deer. But now I live in Florida in a city, and the only thing i have to photograph are the birds and squirrels and an occasional raccoon. Or a blue racer if he happens to be looking for some tasty meal of fence lizards.

But I found the squirrels again. Our three big Oak trees in the front yard are producing an abundance of acorns this year and the squirrels are gobbling them up.

Miss Twinky

Miss Twinky had not been around for almost a week and I was beginning to think my neighbor had made good on a promise. She showed up the first week of December and as is well with her. When she returned a couple of days latter she had a look of surprise at all the obstacles that had been placed in her way She still managed to overcome the slight inconvenience and find her favorite!! Sunflower Seeds She was under the watchful eye of Pi Kitty for part of her time back

I saw the yellow tape in your last image, and thought "oh no, police tape! What has your squirrel done?"

Riggomatic, The caution tape is for the delivery drivers so they don't trip over the Christmas Lighting as in years past. Miss Twinky just looked a little bewildered by it all

Got Squirrel shots?

Squirreluck: A nearly extinct pre-historic creature with the body of a duck and the mind of a squirrel Still found in the Squam Lake area of NH, they thrive and play in the snow and have no real need for water. Unable to climb trees they do however enjoy a strict diet of mostly gravel and fallen acorns. Next I will try luring them back by placing some peanut butter out and about.
Regards, Dusty
P.S. I promise not to do this again but just couldn't resist just this one time.
