Red Alert!

We've had no squirrels around our yard for a year or more, then in the worst light possible (all in shadows and back-lit by setting sun) this one was scrounging around the bird feeder when our cat confronted him. (Our cat will often stalk to within 10 ft. or so and stop, then look around asking what to do next, and walk away.)
But I took a shot anyway as I haven't had a real squirrel shot to post for a long time. Taken with a rangefinder, 90mm, from 30 ft - strong crop. I'll try to do better if this guy stays around.

Brothers too young to leave the nest yet. Nice catch!

I went out this morning and threw some peanuts out. This first one was looking for sunflower seeds in the seed feeder below him.

Then we have one who found a peanut and sat still long enough for me to get a shot off.

the neighborhood celebrity momma. She lives around a highly used parkway. It is where Tim Allen filmed Joe Somebody.

Been searching for her over a month now. I know she forages here around 7 at night.

I am using a bug/feature. I found my super tak 22 could get focus where the plm struggled with the white. Click on the picture and it will show the other picture on flickr.

I've not posted squirrels for quite long time. I keep paying the price for letting them get closer to the lens. The price is about $5 dollars a week, or more now since my backyard welfare lovers bring the whole families for free food.
They try to get closer to the peanuts source, and I have to watch the door. Even if they are not hungry, and hid so many nuts in the

garden, they still ask pretending they are starving.

Named her Popcorn. Lean but not starving. She is a working mother. She is cautious but recognizes I have food for her, she allows about 10 meter distance if I squat and 15 standing.
