Feed the birds, and the grey ones come running.

Usually I see squirrels performing the "barbershop maneuver" towards me - they are peeking around the tree with the tree between us.
But, now, they are on my side of the tree - now they are more 'frisky' and they are more aware of each other than of me.

I was finally able to get close enough for a quick shot. He's moved in to the woods just behind the house.

This looks like an uncomfortable position to me,
but he stayed like this for several minutes before deciding what to do next.

The heritage apple tree my Dad planted has now leafed out {earlier in the year than usual},
so I have stopped buying "Squirrel and Critter Food" until around Thanksgiving, thinking there is enough natural food around here to feed them.
Our last bag is now empty, so the squirrels are now on their own.
Rupert would claim this guy knows that he is getting his last view from here for seven months.

I half expected this guy to march over to me and insist that I refill the squirrel feeder - but it is time for them to find food amongst the verdant growth that nature provides at this time of year.

I was petting our cat when I suddenly noticed this squirrel up in a tree.
As soon as I pointed my camera at him, he hunkered down - I wonder if he thought he was hiding.

I shall name him...

...Joseph, for his (fur) coat of many colors. Never saw him sitting still, usually being chased by another, less colorful brother/sister. Taken at my daughter's place in Wichita, KS.

Now I need to watch the musical, or I'll never get the songs out of my head

Two shots of a gray squirrel on the bird-feeding table, and one melanotic squirrel. The gray seemed to be aware that I was looking at and photographing him.

Crossposted from CCD thread..

Life can be pretty hard.. but sometimes you just take what it throws you, deal with it and Move on... Survival is everything. Ask this little fellow.

HardTimes Four

This Squirrel has seen some rough times. Makes me wonder what happened, I am guessing he survived a hawk attack ? Who knows? but he survived, and is one spunky little rodent. He's a regular at the feeder and has little fear of me...probably knows I am the seed bringer.
