backyard race

Well it finally happened - don't tell Otis.
While cruising down a city street I thumped a squirrel. He darted out from a parked car, and cars were coming from each direction. I had thumped a jackrabbit before, but this was my first squirrel. The crows cawed for joy, but I was miserable
Poop.

That shot of the black squirrel in the snow I like that. I seldom see those. Most of the ones around here are red and gray. Aw, Jim, sorry to hear that. I did that to a lizard not too long ago squashed him under my tires in the driveway and I felt just terrible. I live in dread that I am going to do that to a rabbit around here some day. They're all over and they just jump across the roads like crazy right in front of your car. Some of them I think they have a death wish, I really do...

Went to photograph a piece of sculpture at an outdoor exhibit, intending to light paint with a flash. The piece, "Dreams of Flying" was loosely based, I think, on the movie "Up". Found a dead squirrel on the front porch. The photograph is as I found it.

Next, day, the distraught young lady running the exhibit had it removed. There were no obvious wounds, perhaps it was fear of flying.

Otis thanks you Tuco, it was the right thing to do.....after you tried CPR, of course!

The Big Frenzy was a huge success, lots of new WSSA Members.....(64) I believe! After all the monitoring of the Frenzies at 4 different sites, the screen shooting of the entries and transfer to the Otis Gallery at Flickr, I'm pretty worn out! I used to stay up all night with ease...no longer so! This being an old guy is tough work!

Yep, a Frenzy is tough on squirrels too, too much partying, too much booze, and too much fun!

A little rest and they will be like new!

Best Regards!
Oh yes I forgot about my lazy-squirrel shot. The eager one only makes it worse.

And the autumn squirrel in his element:

plus a late-autumn hovering squirrel!

Rupert, I received my weekly email from John Force Racing and I clicked on some photos from a guy that shoots racing with Pentax cameras and found this .

This link is what got me to his Flickr page.

The low res doesn't do it justice. Here are the full res pics from the set - All shot with the glorious S-M-C Takumar 135 2.5 (Version 2) on Canon 6D.

It's a good shooting day when you can see your own silhouette in a squirrel's eye.
Also, I was simply amazed that the squirrels could carry a fresh "horse apple" fruit (Maclura pomifera - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) up the tree from the ground. Those things when fresh are dense and HEAVY.
