The look of Squirrel Courage?

...or maybe he is just hungry?

The squirrels in my area seem to have retained a well-dressed but ill-tempered character to clean up under the squirrel feeder.

we use a large tray under three feeders in close proximity

squirrels and birds use primary feeder and forage through the catch tray
the mice and opossums pick through the food that falls to the ground
the dogs try to catch the mice and opossums under the tray

even the dachshund wouldn't go under the tray after this hefty one last night

Looks like they sent the Bluejay home to make room for the lunchtime rush.

Otis has hired a Raccoon Crew to keep it clean under the feeders...they make it a family affair....their reward is pizza every Friday night...they love pizza!

The possums follow after the Raccoons.....squirrels open the lids on dumpsters for them as a reward.....possums will eat anything!

Whatever works is fine with me!

Regards!

Well, as I should have long since realised, the way to get the little sods to cooperate is to bribe them! A few cashews worked wonders with the younger squirrels in Kensington Gardens today:

But this little fellow wasn't impressed - not surprising since European robins are insectivores:

later edit - Forgot to say these were all taken with my FinePix S5700 bridge camera, which is my "walk around" camera most of the time.

so will some people!

last year I live trapped a family of seven raccoons and moved them to a far away lake
after the fourth four AM trip the sleeping sheriff woke up long enough to see what I was doing and nodded right back off

Fine shots! Yep, some good nuts or apple slices will get their attention every time! Sure a healthy lookin' squirrel, and love those colors!

I have limits on what I will eat....it must be dead or moving slow.

I think I'm disappointed. My wife saved an apple core {right side of the feeder}, but this guy clearly prefers the bulk corn.

Evidently your squirrels are like mine. Mine turn up their noses at apples and also prefer corn, but like bananas and oranges, and even grapefruit.

Today our squirrel had settled in for Sunday dinner when a gang of birds arrived, and she tried to pretend they weren't there.
