Today I went to a local college to photograph {watchers} during the eclipse. After the excitement was over, I wondered over the various grounds where I have photographed squirrels in recent months. There were none to be seen. I could think of two possibilities

(1) They had purchased their "solar glasses" from Amazon, so decided they should watch eclipse on TV instead.

(2) They had heard you should stay away from people acting strangely - might be rabid.

Two from the last couple of days. This little guy was eat up with the warblers, and I tried to get shots of him not showing them as prominent. Hard to do with them on both sides of his body. He seems to be the only one with these horrible looking things.

Balancing Act!

Time for a drink, me thinks!

circle of confusion

we moved the peanut feeder

the birds have figured it out but this youngster is having real problems

and yes...the nectar is red

this is the first year we have had hummers all summer
the early birds have moved on and the migrants showed up within a day of their annual arrival

none of them would take the clear nectar
a couple of the early birds tasted it
then just fed on the flowers we had planted for them
the current hummers wouldn't even look at it until we changed it to red

Once the hummers start coming to your feeder on a regular basis you can switch to home made and clear nectar. When I did that switch the hummers never noticed the switch and just kept on coming. Making home made nectar is really easy, 4 parts boiled water and one part regular sugar. Store it in the refrigerator and you can make enough for about 3 weeks.

Rupert, I hope all is well and you are not in the hurricane flood zone. Are woodchucks invited to the squirrel party? As far as I know they are in the ground squirrel family, or at least related. If anyone knows for sure, please let me know.

I'm well north of the hurricane zone......just a little extra rain is about it up here near Ft Worth. Pretty bad flooding in Houston currently....it may last several days.

Your woodchuck is welcome here....we're pretty easy and he is close enough. Otis says he can drop in anytime, but will need permission to bring any of his friends....and no free beer or roasted peanuts for him either!

Regards!
