Tribute to Rupert

This squirrel is the first one I've seen in our yard since I posted pictures six days ago. Had come to express condolences.

So sad. I always enjoyed his posts. I am down here in Peru at the moment and havent seen any squirrels. Suppose they left north to give the last farewell.

RIP Rupert.

A few of my babies came to see what's going on the last few days. One of those days I had nine squirrels in the yard, wonder if they knew what was coming.

Rupert was good adding captions to his squirrel shots, I'm not that good at that sort of thing and I enjoyed ever one he wrote.

A tribute to Rupert. He had such wit and wisdom to share along with Otis and company. I will miss him.

The detail and clarity on these pictures is amazing! What lens did you use?

Thanks for the comment. I used a Sigma 70-300mm DL macro super with those shots.

Couple from yesterday.

First one worked its way up the branch getting all the sap.

And after eating the sap, poised to scamper:

The thread symbol shows I've posted here 4 times, so some of these might be repeats, but I wanted to pay tribute to our beloved friend.
Isn't it wonderful how Rupert made each of us feel like his special friend?

Yes it was! That's the kind of guy he was, so caring, and missed terribly.

One from Christmas eve.

It is with great sorrow that I must report the death, on the morning of the 19th of December 2017, of James (Jim) Williams, known to many of you as "Rupert".
His obituary is here: James Williams « Wiley Funeral Home

This is very sad news,

Just like seashells remind us that every passing life leaves something beautiful behind, photography shows us a lasting memory that records how loved one's see the world.

I suspect that Red, shown below, is the same red squirrel shown in at least two of the images I recently posted here (at 1916).

Red likes to perch on the deck rail between trips to the nearby sunflower seeds which dropped from a bird feeder.

Warmest wishes to all for a happy and safe New Year's Eve and Day and for the coming year.

Stu

Had a really bad cold I can't seem to shake off the last ten days or so and haven't been out with my camera, but I saw a squirrel from my back window today, and I actually had a camera in my hand - unfortunately it was about forty yards away on a tree in a neighbour's garden, and the reason I had the camera in my hand was that I was testing a wide-angle lens, so it came out as an indistinguishable greyish-brown blob. It's nice to know that they're still around, anyway - I was a bit worried that the urban foxes that live in the gardens here had eaten them all, they seem very active at the moment. Here's one I saw last year, sitting on the roof of a shed about fifty yards away, not very clear because I was hand-holding a 300mm zoom with 2x converter and would have probably got better results without the converter.
