Out and about in subfreezing weather. And another 3-5 inches of snow expected tonight and tomorrow!

Same here.

Yesterday I threw out a stale piece of rye bread. I know they say that bread is like candy for wildlife, but everyone is entitled to some candy in their life. The real issue to me was whether the taste would be pleasing to anyone. Apparently this gal liked the taste - she climbed to a remote tree to enjoy her find.

if one of our dogs can crave polish dill pickles I imagine a bit of rye bread is fairly benign

today the high and low is 14
the squirrels have actually calmed down a bit
since xmas we've had a lot of sex going on...maybe for warmth?

anyway a couple yards away this female has her back to the wall and can reject any more suitors from about 270 degrees horizontally and 180 degrees vertically
she either has really fattened up or is pregnant
she doesn't seem to enjoy the subzero mambo any longer

I hope the back story is better than the image

No sign of this little guy today. 3-5 inches of snow turned into a foot!

Since it was a nice day (practically the first since Christmas) I took a lens I'm testing to Kensington Gardens - this one was a Sigma UC 70-210 AF for Nikon, and works pretty well. One of the first squirrels I came across was an old familiar face (or rather bottom), the squirrel with a very short tail that I think may have been injured by a dog or something:

Then I ran into this fine fellow who was pretty much fearless and took nuts and some dried fruit from my hand

Also saw quite a few parakeets again, but they didn't want to come close for some reason

plus the usual assorted British birds, dogs, helicopters, and other fauna and flora.

I've seen the following story played out every day this week - the squirrel walks past the "'squirrel and critter food", then rummages around the seeds that have fallen from the bird feeder; then the birds come to eat the "squirrel and critter food". I guess Rupert could have made a story from this, but I'm either she likes sunflower seeds {more plentiful in the bird seed} better than peanuts, or else she enjoys digging for her food {and I've fixed it up so she is sure that she will not starve in any case}

Then, last night, warm weather came and melted the snow ... but she is still more interested in digging in the birdseed

A white squirrel, taken some years ago with my *ist DS, and a more recent red, both in the south of England.

Two more, from today. The first guy is quite happy: "temperature is 18F; it's sunny; and I found another acorn! What's not to like?" The second guy is a mugwump trying to blend with the background while sitting on top of a fence. For those who don't know, a mugwump sits with his mug on one side of the fence and his wump on the other!
