I forgot to post yesterday's squirrel.

They sure are cute little vermin.

On the morning dog walk Tess has come across 3 dead squirrels, nothing left but squirrel fur. We are hoping that with some fresh snow we'll find some prints near a kill that will tell us who this proficient squirrel catcher is. Pine Marten, Fox and Wolf are the likely candidates, linx, and fisher or bobcat are the less likely candidates.

Fishers were imported into New England to combat the porcupines that were devastating forests. When we lived in Western Massachusetts 2006-13, fishers were being blamed for the number of house cats that were disappearing. We've always kept ours indoors, and I thought it was good that fear kept others indoors also, but I suspected that coyotes were actually to "blame".

My squirrels build nests in trees here.

This afternoon, after feeding them cute things, this one was in the fork of our biggest Water Oak. I kept looking at her and couldn't figure out if she was in between the fork or just in front of it. Took the photo with my Sigma 400mm f5.6 MF and guess what?

That one looks a bit frazzled, like he barely escaped a close call with a hawk, or maybe a car?

No luck at all today, went to the park and only saw two or three squirrels, all of them well out of useful range with the lens I had with me, a 28-90mm Canon I was testing. Got bitten by a swan though so the day wasn't a total loss...

I posted this image maybe three years back, but here is a squirrel with a racket, shaking down tourists for eats. Scan from a chrome.

Marcus did you get photos of the swan that bit you? That would be something at least.

I love those squirrels with the extra fur on the ends of there ears. Yes, funny looking but still cute!

Walt, that's one fat squirrel. I've never seen one that fat here.

Chubby is fat:
