Yesterday's rain washed away most of our snow - but this was the scene several days ago. The least noise, and our squirrel heads for the safety of the trees {today she just kept running}

The squirrel that lives in our neighborhood had a friend over for Sunday dinner.

The squirrels in my neighborhood don't mind digging for their food - in fact, it seems like a natural thing to do.

This picture was taken through the window - as usual because the squirrels take off as soon as they see me - but the rain was belting down; not good picture-taking conditions, but I'm posting it because I've never seen a squirrel use its tail as an umbrella, flat against its body to break the rain instead of the usual graceful curve. I forget the day's total rainfall, but I do remember that this was the highest rainfall ever recorded on a day in February, and the February total is now up to 8.0" {this is not Florida; before this month, the highest total ever recorded for a February is 5.2".

Speaking of shooting through windows, I took this the other day through my dirty living room window and forgot to post it. I was playing with my new DA*300m f4:

I've had a black squirrel at my feeder every other day for the last week. We don't see them here often. He's really shy, and we have no idea where it might have come from. So far, I haven't been able to get a picture.

A few from today, there were maybe 5 on the ground under the feeders.

The squirrels and I seem to have a truce. As long as I provide lots of squirrel food, they're staying off the bird feeder.
