Because of the wind chill, yesterday I never even thought of refilling the feeders. At some point I realized the little squirrel was getting the last crumbs. At first I saw just his tail - then he peeked out.

You better fill that bird feeder, lest Otis and his armies will descend upon your humble home and wreak havoc on you and yours.

Ditto what Racer said. When I got sick last spring and couldn't get out to feed those squirrels, they came in my house and fed off my nephew's bread supply, they came in my open window of my bedroom looking for me, and they got through a hole in a screen in our kitchen window. Best fill them feeders before they invade your house.

This was the scene at the base of the tree. The big Fox Squirrels eat most of the sunflower seeds and peanuts from the feeder, but dump much of the corn on the ground. They deign to eat the corn only when none of the 'good' stuff remains. As I did with our children, I make them eat at least some of the veggies before I start feeling too sorry for them. Besides, our daughters say I'm making them too fat, so half a day of fasting might be good for them.

Squirrel feeding technique

I think Rupert might have been entertained by this fellow.

KIT: K-3 with Pentax 67 200mm f 4.0. Photo SOC, just minor cropping for framing purposes.

Usually squirrels hang from the roof of our bird feeder, but this one figured out how to stand on the perch sort of as birds do

A couple more from yet another lens test, this time a Sigma 55-200 for Canon, not a wonderful lens but OK.

This squirrel drew the shortest straw, so her turn at our squirrel feeder occurred during snow showers - glad I could watch from inside.
