Single in challenge over from last month, these taken with HD 55-300 WR ED none were sharpened in post processing and a lot of them only had a tad of contrast added.

I have a 1.4x TC I could use but in my backyard, I haven't really needed it. But I have noticed the closer the squirrels, the sharper the eyes are.
Great series! I particularly like the first image. The blue cast (maybe window reflection?) gives it a cool film look (in my opinion )

Thanks David. Yes, probably window reflection, as I was shooting all photos from behind my bedroom window that is not the double panned window I had last year.

The middle one has the nut in his "now I'm going to run to my nest with this" position. Many times I've seen them try four or five positions before they settle on this one and run off.

Had an event to shoot this morning.

I was leaving the house with my camera in hand and two squirrels shot by me at the bottom of the steps. This one stopped and doubled back to the sidewalk a little further out. Then went back into the ground cover.

A very well fed Algonquin Park squirrel.... the Spruce Bog trail parking lot is the place to be if you're a squirrel.

April 7 - Squirrel One

Today was cloudy, but temperature in the low 60's F, so I spent an hour or so on the deck. Today was archival - now that the feeding season is approaching its end, and we may move before Fall, the squirrels have actually become friendly - sort of. During the time I spent out there, three different squirrels came by and allowed me to enjoy their enjoying the food.

The first to arrive was the little guy.

He came slowly down the tree

.... then carefully checked me out

.... then he could enjoy corn from the feeder

.... but periodically he paused to make sure I understood my place was on the deck

April 7 - Squirrel Two

While the little squirrel was enjoying the squirrel feeder, a second squirrel landed on the bird feeder - but bird seed wasn't good enough for him - not as good as what he saw the little squirrel feasting on - so he just sat there until the little squirrel left, and then he headed for the squirrel feeder. However, it turned out that the little squirrel had left because virtually nothing was left in the squirrel feeder, so the second squirrel had to make a rather undignified effort to get at the remaining crumbs {but it appears he was too fat to actually get anything}.

April 7 - Squirrel Three

Meanwhile, while the two squirrels were alternately using the squirrel feeder, a third squirrel was on the ground below the squirrel feeder, gathering up all the food that was dropped from that feeder

My squirrels will listen when I talk to them and they'll even pose for me, but tame? no they're not tame, they're still wild animals and I would never try to touch or pick on up one, no matter how close they come to me.

This Algonquin squirrel had a den with food storage under the snow. He was going back down the hole retrieving a morsel and eating it out in the fresh air.

This guy was nearby, so he never went far from the tunnel entrance.

These are pretty much tame in that they will eat out of the hand of the lady who lives here and one will even get up in her lap. As opposed to the ones I usually photograph which are wild squirrels that live in the local park and tend to bolt if they see you even look at them. The true wild squirrels are the ones that live out on the side of the mountain and may never see a human in the course of their lives.

I don't think I'd trust mine to get that close to my fingers, they're pretty good sized squirrels, and they have they have some good sharp teeth. I've never tried to tame them, I want them to stay wild so at some point in their lives, I'm not able to feed them, they can still fend for themselves.
