Shame this one isn't in the wild, I'm not a lover of zoos but couldn't resist taking a shot

It's a gorgeous little bugger. Fantastic shot.
Another hobby I have is fly tying. That would make some beautiful flies.

As long as you don't hurt the squirrel.

I miss Rupert with his witty way of adding a story to every squirrel shot he posted.

This is the two-year anniversary of the passing of Rupert, so again I post photos of squirrels standing in his honor:

When you start seeing bald squirrels in your neighborhood ,you'll know I'm in the area, lol.

You could never get within scissors's reach of our squirrels - there is a good reason why I use my '77-420mm' lens when photographing them, even from inside.

Mine either. I've gotten within 5 feet from them but that's not scissors reach either and as soon as I take another step forward, they're gone.

When I was a kid, the neighborhood squirrels would climb up your leg to take a pecan from you. Mom quickly figured out that that's not a good idea, if you're wearing short pants...

That's never a good idea, no matter what you're wearing. Squirrels are wild animals and they can damage more than legs, like bite your fingers off, those teeth are pretty sharp, or scratch you up any place. Doesn't take long for them to jump either, they can be on her/your leg and in a second, on your face. And they can carry rabies.

Squirrel teeth were sharp fifty years ago.
Wild animals carried rabies fifty years ago.

What modern reason for not being climbed by a squirrel was not a lousy reason fifty years ago??

Sorry I brought it up.
It was a long time ago, and it was a ...cute story.
Let's just drop it. This line of conversation is no longer appropriate to the thread.

Maybe not, but it makes others aware that squirrels are wild animals and just because they're cute and fun to watch, and photograph, doesn't change the fact. And where else would you give a warning about feeding squirrels by hand, if not in a squirrel thread?

It may be entirely appropriate. At a women's college near here, incoming students are greeted by flyers warning them against feeding the squirrels - a squirrel climbed the leg of a maintainable worker once looking for food. I have found the college a good place to photograph squirrels, but of course, I do not feed these squirrels {only the ones at home, which are still terrified of me}.
