This morning I filled the Squirrel Feeder with peanuts-in-shell and the Bird Feeder with sunflower seeds. Apparently everyone was happy - birds happily ate their seeds, and the Alpha Squirrel / the Jays carefully ate the peanuts. All except the Beta Squirrel, that is. No matter how hard he looked on the ground, nothing much was there - the happy eaters didn't drop / throw away nearly as much food as they usually do.
Oh well. tomorrow we will return to the usual mixtures, and everyone will probably return to their sloppy ways.

He probably is wondering why he didn't get to collect {what he considers to be} his portion

I gave the animals outdoors their usual Holiday Feast this morning. Two other squirrels took over the Squirrel Feeder area, but this guy cleaned up the Bird Feeder area. Perhaps he did this as "low squirrel on totem pole", but perhaps he just likes what the birds seem to be carelessly throwing away.

When I first saw this squirrel gathering that which had been tossed from the Squirrel Feeder, my first thought was "They usually hold their tails that way only when it is raining" - then I noticed the deck was getting damp - yes, we had a slight sprinkle out there.

Today the squirrel was plenty willing to take the food I had put out, but he wanted me to know that he knows I am watching.

Sometimes, yes. Most of the year I ride my bike to work and I'll sometimes have my KP with me. On days when I want to shoot I;ll leave earlier so I've got more time to do so.
