The chase
These images were captured through a door's glass with a handheld K-S2 and SMC Pentax-F 1:4-5.6 100-300mm zoom (at 240 to 300mm) at ISO 1600 with shutter speeds ranging from 1/60 to 1/100.

Please note the white area on the tail of the darker squirrel. A little reading has suggested to me that light-tailed or white-tailed grey squirrels are not extremely rare in urban areas. I think this is the first squirrel I've seen with a white area on its dark tail.

Thanks to everyone who posts in this thread! I realize the technical quality of the images I'm posting here is inferior to the excellent work others have posted, but I thought some viewers might be interested in the action and in the marking of one of the squirrels.

I plan to research whether the timing suggests that this was a territorial chase or whether the darker squirrel might have mating on its mind.

Happy new year to all.

Not inferior at all! No squirrel shots are inferior due to the superb subject matter! ......Otis says you should check that white tailed "squirrel" for a foul odor...if it smells really bad, it may not be a squirrel?

Yep, Otis approves and is sending a Recruiting Officer your way to sign up that squirrel!

Hey Guys! Thanks for posting in this thread and keeping it alive and well......Otis appreciates it more than you can know!

A rare event in this part of Texas this morning ....snow...after a Christmas day of 80F!

Otis said..."What the hell is this?"

I had to go out and buy him some gloves....said his little pinkies were freezing.

Best Regards & a Happy New Year to all here!

I have a tree in the back yard that given enough ice this winter will probably snap. My plan was to cut it down and I did get the bigger branches, but then found other things to occupy my time. I've noticed a new neighbor perched up on one of the lower branch stumps. At this height, he is level with the living room windows.

I guess I'm not sure if he's watching us, or we're watching him?

Happy to be part of this thread!

That's easy...it is one of Otis' "Scout Squirrels" and he is watching your house. When you are all gone someplace, he is going to break in and eat anything he can find in there!

Happy to have you here! Come back and often!

Instead of cutting down that tree, leave the trunk and install a squirrel feeder like this one. Keep it stocked with corn or black oil sunflower seeds and you will have plenty of free entertainment!

They love those feeders...heck, they practically live in them!

Best Regards!

Our squirrels go mad for apple or banana chips, and the occasional brazil nut.

Eating suet put out for the birds in my back yard

Just discovered this thread!

Here is a squirrel eating from a suet cage that I set out for the birds. I thought that I had put it on a wire long enough to prevent squirrels from eating it. Apparently not!
