I'm also excited about the RX100-III, particularly in regards to how it addresses some of the short-comings of the mk II.

I bought my RX100-II to replace my Olympus XZ-1, but I ended up keeping the Olympus and now use both cameras. The Olympus XZ-1 is a great camera, and still does a lot of things better than the RX100-II. In fact, if it weren't for the amazing video quality of the RX100-II, I may have returned it and just kept the Olympus XZ-1 to supplement my DSLR.

Here are the shortcomings of the RX100-II that I wanted to see address in the mk III:

-Brighter at the long end of the zoom (check!)
-Reduce minimum focus distance at longer focal lengths (check!)
-Speed up camera operations (check!)
-Incorporate an ND filter (check!)

-Make the lens a bit sharper, closer to my Olympus (check?)
-Improve IS (possibly, but DPR did not test it)

-Improve face detection (nope!)
-Improve low-light focusing (nope!)

My XZ-1 does not have any of the above problems, so basically I wanted my RX100 to perform as well as my Olympux XZ-1 in all respects. So while the mk III is a nice upgrade, it looks like there's still room for improvement in the MK IV!

I was excited about the new lens, but seeing the results on dpr, I think I'll wait and see what the supposed LX8 brings. I still think the first release of this camera is the pick for value.

It's hard to argue too much with the price considering the lack of direct competition, but I agree that $800 would be a little hard to swallow.

I bought my Mk II on Craigslist a few weeks ago for $350. It was only a couple months old, but the owner had dropped it and there is a crack running vertically through the screen. He bought a new Mk II, but when the screen is on, it's almost impossible to see the crack, so it doesn't bother me. But before I found that deal, I was also looking to buy a Mk I since it is a much better value.
