Popular Photography ignores K3

I'm not a brand loyalist by any stretch, but I do take issue with information that has been deliberately skewed or ignored. There is a review of the Sony A77 II in the Aug 2014 edition of Popular Photography that uses the 7D and the D300s as the comparison points. There is zero reference to the K3. Here is the quote from their conclusion. "When it comes to high-end APSC body, Sony seems to be the only manufacturer still interested in the format."

Yep, I saw that, too. They did do a full-on review of the K3 in timely fashion for a monthly magazine, however. More than I could say for Shutterbug... or dpreview.com, for that matter...

I wonder what makes the sony a77 II more "high-end" compared to the pentax k-3, nikon D7100 and canon 70d.

This makes the situation even more concerning. If they did a full-on review they have content and data a for comparison.

Aside from the K-3, it's just weird that they used older cameras like the 7D and D300s as comparison points for Canon and Nikon.

A77II, K-3, Canon 70D, Nikon D7100 would have been a sensible comparison set. Just like CNet has done here:

I hate to say this, but in my opinion, outside of this and maybe a couple other forums, just about no one cares about anything Pentax. I mostly frequent brand-agnostic forums and the only camera that garners much attention & praise is the Ricoh GR.. The 645Z is bubbling up some, but that's niche..

Clicker dinged it. PopPhoto is advertising driven. They care about the brands that advertise, regularly and significantly. Pentax gets ignored by everyone because it doesn't participate in the market.

Think that's something? Outdoor Photography did a piece on the highest MP cameras. The K-3 was mentioned at the beginning of the article, but was ignored at the end when pics were shown(two Sony offerings made the cut).

Last week, I met a local pro who said to me "Pentax still makes cameras?" when I told him what I liked. BTW, he took some fantastic pics on the Samsung S5(gonna get one).

Garbage. The K3 is the best APS-C camera out there.

Well, sad truth is Pentax is not 'popular', not as much as Canon, Nikon and Sony, so it's not surprising to see it being overlooked and ignored.
I blame it on their marketing strategy (if it exists at all).

But as I mentioned earlier, I find the strangest thing about the PopPhoto article is not the omission of Pentax, but their comparison of the new (2014) Sony with the much older (2009) Nikon and (2009) Canon bodies. Huh?

No only that, comparing a 24 MP with a 12MP with a 18MP? The whole thing is a joke.

I actually missed your post. Hah, yes it does seem strange... perhaps they are trying to imply something?
