That would be perfect to attach to one of my telescopes.

Smartphone , iPad/tablet controls :
No Manual mode? I guess one can use Shutter priority mode with adapted lenses, right?

DA15 stopped down to f/8 with fotodiox adapter, focused to infinity, Auto ISO would be a lot of fun?

No one is going to complain about the size of the LCD screen, that's for sure.
With 10.1" display on the waterproof Sony Z2 tablet it should be easy to see all of the detail after every shot.

Almost everyone these days has a smartphone or tablet. And if you are already carrying around a smartphone.. why not combine it with the camera? The best part is, smartphones and tablets add a lot of functionality. Think about it, they already have a great screen, usually better than the one on camera, and they have a good CPU and an OS that allows apps. Imagine all the custom functions you could add that way, for timelapse, focus stacking, HDR, triggers, etc. On top of that they have good connectivity, wifi, bluetooth, gps.. you can make wireless backups, develop on site, send via message or or email, etc.

Edit: Though, I bet it will take a lot of getting used to that the viewfinder and the lens/camera are separate

I like the idea.

Personally I hate not having buttons. The touchscreen isn't good enough; I even still use a P&S if I know I'm going to be taking pictures, rather than use my smartphone, which has arguably better IQ.

So it's not for me, not that anyone cares, Sony least of all.

It's the first bit of genuinely "new thinking" in the camera market that I can remember in recent history. Maybe a game changer going forward.

OX1 costs $399

Today at 16.00 Berlin time Sony will announce the new QX30, QX1 E-mount module and likely two new E-mount lenses (16-35mm Zeiss and 28-135mm powerzoom). You can follow the event live (with live video streaming included!) here on SAR!

And as you see from these pictures there will be also a White, Gold and funny looking Pink versions of the current QX10. And for a short time Sony Store US itself leaked the price of the QX1 which will be $399 for the module only without kit lens.

Like I said, stay tune don SAR at 16:00 Berlin time which corresponds at:
7am in San Francisco
10am in new York
15:00 in London
22:00 in Peking
23:00 in Tokyo
(SR5) UPDATED: Crazy QX10 Pink and Gold pictures. QX1 costs $399. | sonyalpharumors

The ISO range is a little disappointing, and bulb mode would be great on it, but even stacking pics with it attached to a telescope might be cool.

Wow, pretty radical. I like the idea, hopefully the execution is worthy of the concept.
Is this a APS-C sized sensor?

I'd love a small system to compliment my K mount SLRs for video and portability (with good IQ).
Maybe this could be it?

ISO range is 100 - 16000. That's 16,000 and not 1,600. That's pretty much what I'd expect.
