new Sony Z3 waterproof smartphones with 25mm lens, 12,800 iso and 4K video

QuoteQuote:
Like previous Xperia smartphones and tablets, the three devices are waterproof for up to 30 minutes in up to 2 meters of water, but they kick up dust protection to become dust-tight, said Xperia product marketing manager Stephen Sneeden.

The three mobile devices feature 4K video capture like their predecessors, but the two phones add IS0 12,800 sensitivity and 25mm lens compared with their predecessors’ 27mm lens.

20.7MP camera with 1/2.3” “Exmor™ RS for mobile” image sensor, new 25mm “G Lens” and world’s first smartphones with ISO 12800 sensitivity for superior photos, even in low light

Capture the moments that matter in the highest quality with stunning detail – anytime, anywhere. Drawing on years of expertise from Sony’s award-winning Cyber-shot™ and Handycam™ technologies, Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact deliver superior image quality whether it’s in low-light, on the move or even underwater.

The 1/2.3” ExmorRS™ for mobile sensor and BIONZ™ for mobile processing engine work together to give you photos and videos in sharp and vivid detail. Plus, you can fit more into every shot with the new 25mm wide-angle Sony G Lens. If you’re capturing a photo of a stunning sunset, take advantage of the world’s first ISO 12800 sensitivity in a smartphone5 for better detail, even in low light.

Shooting a video? Sony’s new and improved SteadyShot™ technology with Intelligent Active Mode compensates for your movements, analysing dozens of backwards and forward frames, to predict your next steps and make panning smoother and images more stable.

For those most important memories, record clips in super-clear 4K resolution at four times Full HD. Plus, the advanced video mode on Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact means you can pause and resume filming, so you can be sure to capture the perfect moment in one file.

New social camera apps and editing features will take your camera experience to the next level. Capture an event and your reaction to it at the same time with Face in. Add scribbles and animations to pictures with AR fun. Create a movie from your photos and videos with Movie creator. Record from multiple angles with up to three compatible Xperia devices filming at the same time with Multi-camera. Or add sound to a photo with Sound Photo.

All of these new camera apps are added to a wide range of popular Xperia camera apps accessible directly from your camera’s viewfinder, including Background defocus, Live on YouTube – by Xperia™ and Timeshift video.

Most other core components are identical, though. On both phones Android 4.4 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S801 quad-core SoC that is clocked at 2.5 GHz. In terms of camera specs the new models come with the same 20.7 MP resolution on a 1/2.3 sensor as the predecessors but the sensitivity range has been expanded to ISO 12800. At 25mm, the new G-lens offers a wider equivalent focal length. There is also 4K video-recording and a 2.2 MP front camera.

In terms of design, the new models have not ventured too far from the previous generation but the aluminum edges are more rounded and at 7.3mm the Z3 is one of the thinnest phones around. The Compact model is one mm thicker. Both models are water- and dust proof (IP65/68) and will be available toward the end of September.

Key Specifications:

20.7 MP 1/2.3-inch Exmor Mobile BSI CMOS Sensor
25mm equivalent focal length
4K video-recording

5.2-inch 1080p (Z3) / 4.6-inch 720p (Compact) Triluminous display
Qualcomm Snapdragon S801 quad-core 2.5 GHz SoC
16/32GB (Z3) / 16GB (Compact) storage
3GB (Z3) / 2Gb (Compact) RAM

Stick the new Sony APS-C QX1 on it with ultra fast F0.85 or F0.95 lens for low light.

How much better is the A7 than the A7R? It should be about halfway in between the two, right?
