Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has improved camera, screen resolution and more

---------- Post added 09-03-14 at 05:34 PM ----------

The Note 4 features 5.7-inch display like the Note 3, but the Super AMOLED display has been upped to Quad HD 2,560 by 1,440 resolution from FullHD. The processor also goes to octa-core processing in select countries from 2.3GHz quad-core. One Note 4 version will be available with 1.7 GHz quad-core processor, but the phablet will also be available with 1.9GHz octa-core processor (1.9GHz quad plus 1.3GHz quad).

The Note 4ís camera also gets improvements, with pixel counts jumping to 16 megapixels for the main camera from 13, and the front camera going to 3.7 megapixels from 2 megapixels. The main camera also gets a smart optical image stabilizer to counter-balance camera shake and automatically extend exposure time in dark settings. The front camera offers f/1.9 lens with up to 120-degree-wide shooting angle.

It is a pity that dedicated shutter buttons is so neglected in smartphones lately (I had a 2010 entry-level Android LG with a hardware shutter button).

Really useful to have a camera that is always in your pocket, but the poor interface takes out all the pleasure of creatively using it. Ever tried to one hand landscape-hold a large-ish smartphone and press the on-screen shutter button multiple times while composing? Very uncomfortable! IMHO even a "heavy" dslr have better one-hand operation ergonomics than a no-shutterbutton smarthone.

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is a Note 4 with edge display

---------- Post added 09-04-14 at 08:32 AM ----------

We'll have to wait for a review unit to properly assess the Note 4's imaging performance but on paper the new model looks like a great option for mobile photographers who prefer larger devices. The Note 4 will be available globally in four colors starting in October. No information on pricing has been released yet.
Key specification:

16MP BSI CMOS sensor
Optical image stabilization
3.7MP / F1.9 front camera
4K video recording
5.7-inch 2560◊1440 QHD Super AMOLED display
2.7 GHz Quad-Core or 1.9 GHz Octa-Core (1.9GHz Quad + 1.3GHz Quad-Core) Processor (depending on region)
Android 4.4
32GB storage and microSD support
3320 mAh battery with quick-charging

At the launch event Samsung also showcased the Galaxy Note Edge which will be launched at an unspecified point in time later this year. The Note Edge comes with very similar specifications to the Note 4 but features a unique 5.6-inch QHD resolution screen with an additional 160 pixels wide curved edge that provides quick access to frequently used apps, alerts and other functions. This also works when the optional cover is closed and allows you to view notifications while watching full-screen video.
