New Nikon 20mm f/1.8G - impressive MTF wide-open

Link: New Nikon (FF) 20mm f/1.8G - impressive MTF wide-open

Not cheap at $799 initial MSRP, but not break-bank either. I expect discounts at some point... nice option to replace my 20 f/2.8D, maybe.

Nice! They might launch a rebate for black Friday- but compared to the F1.4 lenses this is already cheap enough considering that it's an ultra-wide IMO!

They must have priced it right because I keep thinking of buying it

the red line is contrast whereas the blue is resolution and I'm not at all impressed with that blue line. There's a lot of astigmatism and a steady fall off in resolution to the edge. But as this is probably wide-open it's probably not that bad when stopped down

Expensive? A Pentax 15mm f4 DA ED AL ltd can sell new for, what, close to $700 USD? And still not as fast or wide ( on a Pentax camera) as this 20mm is for its format.

I don't think so - the 28mm f/1.8 has more slightly contrast than the 20mm prime. Also the Nikkor 20mm f/1.8 distortion characteristic will be of interest, as the 28mm has visible distortion.

You will need to stop down even more to compensate for the field curvature.
