I think it's a very cool camera and 4K video is awesome but it's unfortunate that there is no articulating LCD and no touchscreen capabilities. Those are features that I have come to expect from Panasonic.

And apparently you can pull 8mp frames from the 4K video... DPR reports that the screen is a touch-screen.

I had been toying with the idea of adding either the PanaLeica 15mm or 25mm to my GX-7 kit, but for $300 more I can have my day-dream camera (minus tilty screen). We'll have to see if the lens/sensor combo lives up to the hype.

9/17 Edit: Apparently the original DPR preview had it wrong - there is no touch screen. (Which is strange for a current Panasonic camera).

Looks like a nice travel camera, good all round package, this could be my next compact camera when I have to replace my battered Fujifilm X10, when the price come down a little bit that is, US$899 usually translate to AUD$999 to $1099, interesting to see the street price here.

I'm upgrading my GX1 P&S travel cam to this...great set of features. Makes you wonder if you need a full size body anymore if you don't need interchangeable lenses...

I am primarily a long lens shooter so I will always keep my K-5IIs and DA*300 and DA*60-250. But I have already started to weed out some of my lenses in the range of the LX100. I bought a used LX5 about a year ago to see how I would get along with a small compact with a zoom in this range and am still quite happy with it. So for me this would be a camera in addition to my DSLR, but a replacement for for using the DSLR in this 24mm-75mm range. I expect heavy gear when shooting long and usually am mounted on a tripod for that. While the LX100 isn't a pocketable camera, it is a size that will suit me well for using in it's range.

Even though I like the look of the LX100, the Ricoh GR is APS-C and about the same size, in fact even smaller and much more pocketable. Cheaper too.




I'd personally probably get a GR ahead of a LX100, unless I needed the fancy video or the zoomability.

I agree about the GR except for the fixed focal length. I tried one and wanted to like it so badly, but I just have such a hard time dealing with the fixed focal length. Same thing happened a few years prior with a Fuji x100.

Got to have a viewfinder and zoom for me. If the X10/X20 had a larger sensor, even if the body was a little larger, it would be perfect. I'd like a longer range in the Panny, but even a little beats none.

I like it. It looks very versatile with wifi, 4k video, viewfinder, and very useful 24-75mm focal length. I was a little disheartened there was no built in ND filter, but then I saw the max shutter is 1/16000. Top it off with the multi-aspect sensor...very nice.

Well, What is wrong with having both the LX100 and the GR?

Such a combo can replace a DSLR with a couple of lenses, still be more versatile and lighter, with no need to change lenses.

The LX100 addresses all the shortcomings of the GR (GR has terrible video, not so good battery life, and of course, no zoom lens).

Nice camera it seems.
75mm eq and f4 eq in dof can really pull off quite good isolation type shots.
24mm is a good wide option too.

M4/3 sensor has improved a lot to be good enough in most cases.
Esp with a fast lens like this one.

I think I will look out for the Leica version the DLux just for the vanity of the red dot
