Actually, it would seem that mirrorless cameras and advanced sensor technologies are both impossible for Canon to "see." My guess is that they'd like their consumers to also see them as "impossible."

Canon cameras will make people better photographers!...at least that is what Canon wants everyone to believe. It seems Canon has made a lot of progress in achieving that goal. This latest branding campaign is merely a continuation of the effort to achieve that goal. Unfortunately the average consumer is easily persuaded by such logical fallacies.

Certainly can't hurt! The general consensus is that there truly is very little inferior product on the market today. The technical standard is high and the results show it. I have amazed by the number of people in my circle of friends whose photographic skills have been transformed by the purchase of a modern digital camera (usually Canon or Nikon). (No sarcasm in that statement intended.)

That was my mother in law a few years ago. She totally bought into the Canon mythos and got herself a T3i two lens kit, complete with a bag and a slew of accessories. Everything she read (or wanted to read) told her that this camera takes great pictures and will make her a great photographer. It didn't take long for the kit to be relegated to the closet. Her pictures weren't any better, the camera was too complicated to use, and the Auto/Program modes weren't smart enough for her. Now she's back to a simple P&S compact and her phone.

Interestingly enough, she shot many, many, many rolls of reversal film in the lat 70s and early 80s using my father in-law's Nikon SLR (not sure of model or specific lens). A lot of those shots came out decently well! Sure, some were not centered or improperly exposed but that can all be fixed after scanning the films.

Go figure ...

Ha ha ha!!

What a joke!

I thought they'd churn out another DSLR with the same tired 18MP sensor and Fisher Price build quality, but they can't even manage that!

I think I figured this out...

1) Ad agency bigwig asks creative team for "new Canon Inc. brand message"
2) Creative types churn out fresh ideas - all are rejected by Canon corporate
3) Bigwig tells creative team to "creative harder, dammit!"
4) Folder of not-so-fresh ideas is taken to Canon for review, again.
5) One by one, all ideas are rejected, again.
6) Post-it note on the back of the folder is from creative team:

"See? Impossible!"

And a marketing fail is born...

(I'm pretty sure New Camera News doesn't need to even post more than a link for this one.)

Canon's marketing team might be subscribing to "any publicity is good publicity". They've got us talking about them, at least. Canon Is Doomed
