agreed, i bet that they all do know what the competition is up to.

i would think that retail stores would be a good source for individual model sales volume numbers?? take a percentage, extrapolate for the manufacturer overall figures.

i just don't see sony going "here canikon, this is exactly how many a7r's we've sold, it worked for us so it'll work for you" :-)

or maybe it's too late to worry about once the camera hits the market, and the real secret is in researching future trends.

i'm wondering what is going to happen with the a99 successor, if there is going to actually be one.

those guys can bring all of their glass over to e-mount with the laea4, do they really need another body?

Silly question... what is a good mount converter? From e full frame mount to k mount?
Thanks!
does the lens have an aperture ring? if not, you'll need an adapter that has an aperture ring on it, that in turn moves the aperture lever sticking out of the back of the lens.

you have to then calculate the aperture settings, and mark the adapter ring accordingly.

Retail numbers, like Amazon and Kakaku, are great for gauging market sentiment - i.e. which model is "hot" and which is not getting any attention. But as noted, these numbers are skewed by discontinued models on sale. The original Pentax Q for example was for many months in the top 20 on Kakaku - but at an average selling price of less than half of RRP.

Based on my sources, the a7r has been a really popular model, to the point that it has been out of stock at several points this year. You can bet Sony will be releasing a successor soon - maybe it's the A9 maybe not.

I am actually hoping Sony will release a small (perhaps entry level) full frame FE camera - in a NEX5 like form factor. I would buy that in a heartbeat.

Got to play with the A7 II a bit today at the Boston Waterworks Museum. All with adapted Pentax FA Limited lenses, all SOOC, mostly HC B&W preset:

Just saw these over on Fred Miranda. Nice sample shots. I like the tones and textures of the HC B&W. Can you customize the settings for HC B&W? What site do you review for?

Reviewed.com. Or I used to, anyway. These days I'm the news & features editor.

You can't customize the HC B&W mode, but you can customize the regular monochrome Creative Style to add more (or less) contrast.

Confused here:

Is there such a thing as a "Mark II" Sony Ar7 ??
I thought it was simply called Ar7 II ... or maybe there is still another new Sony camera out there?

i think that sony now has at least five ff bodies? four e-mount mirrorless, and the a-mount a99.
a7(24mp)
a7ii(24mp)
a7r(36mp)
a7s(12mp)

there is a rumor about a newer version of the a7r coming out soon.

sony is blowing out the 24mp a7, $1043 at b&h, with an old slr film body trade in.

Good idea - I use mine only with my old film SLR lenses - works very well for these.

One can tell that Sony senses a product triumph with their A7 series. A7 was announced in Oct 16 2013, and by Mid Nov 2014, 13 months later, we have A7R, A7S, and the A7II. I'll bet they are pulling resources from wherever to achieve this rapid development effort.

And these aren't small changes between models. I think Sony senses a "GoPro" moment here - their chance at a market breakthrough. And i respect their adherence to tradition in not introducing any more than one new lens for each new body - just kidding Kudos to Sony for a job well done!
