Looking for Canon Mount Tele Zoom Recommendations

Seeking recommendations (new or 2nd hand) for a 200-300mm zoom suited to low light conditions to fit to a Canon 40D. Price range <AUD$600. Primary shooting likely to be wildlife in cloudy skies, forests, twlight conditions for personal use only. (Colleague is replacing a kit 300mm that isn't fast enough.)

I checked out a few 2nd hand Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 zooms, but there seems to be a $200 premium on these as soon as you put a Canon mount on it. Another reason I'm glad I have a lowly Pentax.

There are many Sigma and Tamron lenses 70-200 2.8 for canon in your price range. If you want 300 F4, fewer, Here are a couple:

200mm is likely too short for most wildlife.

If by fast you mean f4...you might get a used Canon 300 with IS for $1,000 US. KEH has a Tokina 300 f2.8 for $1350 US. No IS, weighs a lot.

Long and fast is not cheap. Long fast zooms will be heavy.
