Sony sensors business is part of the Device business unit. Camera are parts of the Imaging Products and solutions. The info you give from Circa is wrong , It's the Device business who deliver sendsor to Smartphone.
The devices unit supplies the sensors that power cameras built into its Xperia smartphones and Apple Inc.’s iPhones.

Here the Sony Electronic component who include the sensor business but not the camera business(Part of Imaging)

My mistake about the spinoff

lets remember that the canikon/pentax fanboi argument all along has been that "sony is losing billions", period.

you think that imaging is paying the going street rate for sensors from the device business unit, which is not logical to me, since everything belongs to sony, why would the company want to hurt itself by losing a price advantage like that.

lets ignore sensors, fine, just look at the imaging division:
"Sony users can rest easy, though, as the company categorizes its imaging division as a 'stable profit generator.' The division has generated money for Sony over the past two quarters, with favorable changes in exchange rates and increased sales of high-value cameras compensating for the continued decline of conventional compact camera sales."
Sony branches off audio and video business but remains committed to sensor development: Digital Photography Review

sony predicted a weakening in the overall camera market months ago, there really isn't anything new in this thread at all...
"The video camera market is expected to shrink slightly, while the still camera market is expected to shrink significantly. In still cameras, the percentage of mirrorless ILCs will increase"

dslr has about 30% of the overall camera market in korea, it's all milc over there, sony and samsung share 50% of the market? nothing to be surprised about.
