Been playing around with the Sigma 150-600 sport over the summer, I picked it up as a beater to go along with an older D800. This gives me something that I can take along with me where ever I want to go without worry of damaging a $7000 dollar lens

For its price it is very competitive with lenses that are well above its pay grade while still being small enough to fit in most of my backpacks.

Gotta say Ian that it's always a pleasure looking at your photos. One quick question if I may...do you shoot the Sigma 150-600 handheld or do you use a monopod/tripod? I am considering the lens but my style is more of a walkaround than shooting from a hide. Do you think the weight can be an issue?

It all depends on many factors.

The sample above are taken handheld, tripod, and tripod with MLU w/ cable release.

The VR on the sport is also very handy when mounted on a tripod, I find that it is not a substitute for MLU and cable release but it does give you better results than shooting without it for tripod work with slower shutterspeeds
