I haven't used any video, so you must be referring to someone else there, and haven't used a Canon for a long time and never for video.

I also see a risk for me to do something I don't intend when I put my eye to the EVF. I have always used my left eye, and could never imagine using the left so my nose touches the screen so I constantly have to wipe smudges from the screen.
Sorry. For some reason my brain thought you're Ed in the Ed left Pentax thread... not sure why I thought that.

Yes. With some practice... I have a 5" phone that I sometimes use to control my computer, which has a 1920x1200 resolution. Even when completely zoomed out I can control it properly, hit all the buttons... At some point you just know when your finger makes contact. Maybe not with pixel precision, but close enough.

A sensor underneath the EVF or OVF could turn off the touch input. Or, I would turn it into a touchpad of sorts, imagine moving it like a mouse to move to different focus points. Amongst other things that could be possible.

Here's a rough and ready edit. It's my last shot of the day with the mk II and the 70 - 200 at 135mm using the in camera pano. I don't do these often as handheld it can be a little fussy. Either too fast or too slow...

I've cropped a little off the right, so only 14 mp in full size

Thanks Ishimitis for sharing the images - they look great!!!

Thanks to Winder for the ISO testing, very telling in the shadow areas. Kudos to Sony!

The images I took were all on continuous so will have been 12 bit. Have downloaded the Capture One for Sony, just trying to get my head around it. Am used to LR so will most likely stick with that...

From what I understand it become less visible as ISO increases, so it would be most visible at base ISO.

Here's one of my dog in the garden with the mk II and 70 -200 at 200 f/6.3 and ISO 200. I shot at EV -1 and adjusted in LRCC. Shot was handheld. There is a full size (just under 30mp) mage there. I cropped in a little and to 4:3 ratio. Was shot in single shot and AF-S.

that pic is clean, looks good.

have you done any manual focusing with evf magnification? some people are complaining that it's not as good as the a7r?

Not as yet. Weather has been appalling so haven't been able to get out at all, plus busy putting together a phonebook with a deadline of tomorrow...

Right - this is a shot taken at Rhossili in South Wales immediately after sunset shooting straight at the light. Here is a screenshot of the original shot in LRCC untouched:

Then after some adjustments in LRCC - including maxing the shadows and adding nearly 2 stops of exposure:

and after processing in PSCC, using a small amount of Dfine NR then Viveza to add some structure and contrast, and a soft grad in Color efex (this shot was handheld at f/5.6 shutter speed 1/500 at ISO 200 with 16-35 at 16mm. EV was set at -2 and shot in Av. There wasn't that much noise, but using Viveca and a software grad often amplifies it.

This is the final result:

Have done some today and the magnification definitely works. I usually have the focussing set to DMF which shows the focus peaking and also gives me manual focus override...

Heat has always been an issue in small cameras with big sensors for video. Slow start up for stills? Hmmm. It's less than a second, which is quick enough for most.

Heat?

The graph shows that the camera has no material self-heating problem (for the test scemario).

The other measurements don't reveal anything concerning either. That there is noise reduction at the RAW level for extremely high ISO settings is not ideal but one can easily address that by not choosing such high ISO values.

As for the EOSHD review, I don't think this reviewer is unbiased. I'm not impressed by his style and wouldn't be surprised if future reviews would paint a different picture.
