I'm still looking at options for an upgrade of my X-M1 and for around €500 I could get a used X-E3, X-T20 or X-T1. Each has their own advantages and disadvantages (I'd love the ruggedness and WR of the top-of-the-line cameras but can't spring for a T2 or T3) and one of the main deciding factors has come down to the viewfinder. I understand that the resolution is the same in all three models but that the T1 has greater magnification hence a larger finder and that the firmware allows a magnified view for focusing but also to see the framing of the picture as a whole, and that the T20 (and E3) doesn't have that. As I use the camera quite a lot with adapted lenses I wanted to ask for opinions, especially from those who have used both models with manual lenses, to see how much of a difference there is in the manual focus experience.

I have also read that the X-T30 is expected soon but I'm not sure how much (if at all) that will drive down the prices of the X-T20. I'd prefer not to wait long for a camera which will doubtless appear but who know when or if it will prompt much of a change in the price of existing models.

Well,

Those 3 bodies have different versions of Xtrans, 1, 3 and 2 respectively..priced accordingly.Xtrans 3 has advanced manual focussing aids and would be my pick.XE1 is cheap and very"filmic"...as the sensor progressed, some people didnt like the "digitalitalisation".

XE2 is similar to the XT1,so thats an option, depends if you like the "rangerfinderish" set up.

XT30 specs and photos are starting to be leaked but no price yet,the 20 will depreciate for sure and good used copies should be a bargain.

Thanks, I meant X-E3, not X-E1 (now corrected).

From what I've read the E3 and T20 are virtually identical, with the only differences being very minor.

I picked up an XE3 the other week, (and an Xpro2) , I like the XE3, but tbh my go-to for small is still my X100T love that little camera, for most of the last year t has been the only camera I shot (I have the xpro2 with me today, and I will likely now sell off my Xpro1, XT1 and maybe My XE1 Infrared, then i need to decide if i will keep the XE3 or sell it towards an XT3
the XE3 has some nifty tricks up it's sleeve though, and if I sold the x100T and just got the 23f2 it would be close on size

The Xt30 is imminent, wont be weather sealed.Only rumours but Ive seen U$799($$$ony A6400 is 899).

If the 30 is as rumoured,I'll be tempted.

No 4K 60p,no WR,one card slot...but supposed to shoot log(I'll just use Eterna).

You have WR on Pro2,xt30 may suffice?

the XT2 probably suffices, I love my XT1 and before I got the X100 i used it 75+% of the time. I haven't used the Xpro2 or xe3 long enough to commit to either long term yet. i do miss the tilt screen, but I love the optical on xpro2...and size on xe3. i miss my VF on the XT though and the tilt screen. ... I grabbed both these cameras because i got great buys (630 CAd for the XE3 with grip and spare battery, 1200 on xpro2 w grip 3 original batteries and half case and wrist strap. both like new with boxes and all accessories etc. so i am certain i can sell on with little or no loss if i want to move up to xt3 .so many compelling cameras and lenses in the lineup (fortunately i am not into birding so the siren call of the 200 f2 kit w 1.4tc hasn't hit
(stunning lens though)

Algonquin this year is really cold, and the snow pack is already 2-3 feet with another 18 inches coming..... we haven't had a melt since November. This may end up having more snow pack than any other year since we moved up. Temperatures have been consistently -20 but we haven't had a lot of the really cold stuff, -30 yet, but most people who don't like going out in -30 also don't like going out in minus 20, so I'm not sure how that stacks up on your "go or don't go" chart.

So. what's in Cambellford?

So this is where LeRolls is hanging out these days. That's going to sell lot of Sonys.

My friend and fellow old punk photographer Rodney Bowes ... he has an air bnb he just opened on the river so we will pop up support him and have a visit, some good spots to shoot including an abandoned house not far from there

As for the temperature it’s easier to dress for -40 than +40

I'd swap your -40º winters for the +40º summers here.
